Kenneth Rowntree 1915-1997 The 3 Napkins and the table cloths, singing Pencil on paper, possibly for Recording Britain 16 1/2in. (42cms) x 11 3/4 (29.5) another sketch and a further one showing a castle or church tower, all inscribed with colour notes (unframed) NB The view of the restaurant (or tea room) would have appealed to Rowntree`s love of shape and juxtaposition. The three round topped windows suggest figures, whilst the three fan folded napkins, must have suggested a frivolous normality in wartime. Rowntree noted on this piece; "All colours in doorway Very strong & as dark as dammit. Painting should be about the 3 napkins & the table cloths, singing. Shadows of sun on walls where needed

(19cms) high NB The firm of Hedley`s merged with the Anderson family to form Anderson, Son & Hedley, who merged with Atkinson and Garland in 1913 to become Anderson & Garland the well known firm of auctioneers.
