A GERMAN THIRD REICH POLICEMANS DAGGER, having nickel plated eagle head pommel with horn scales and inset winged eagle over swastika device, oak leaf relief decorated cross piece, and nickel plate mounted leather scabbard. The blade marked E & F Horste, Solingen and the hilt crosspiece stamped S.D. VI. 373. Similar numbers to scabbard mount. 19" Long overall.

Luftschutz (Anti-Aircraft Defence) Buckle and SA Sports Badge. A Luftschutz silver grey belt buckle in excellent condition marked "RS & S" (some slight rust on back) together with two tunic buttons manufactured by Assmann and Sohne with RZM stamp. A SA Sports Badge in gold inscribed "Eigentum D Chefs D Ausdildungswesens" (Property of the head of Physical Conditioning) c.1935, manufactured by E Schneider Udenscheid, and numbered 234010. The Vendor states that his father serving with the Royal Engineers crossed the Rhine in an inflatable boat under fire and jumped into the nearest trench, on landing they found a senior NCO or officer in full dress and liberated the above items together with his Luger and boots etc (the latter were disposed of long ago). Also included with this lot a photograph and ration book etc belonging to the vendor`s father.
EARLY OFFICER`S COATEE (COLDSTREAM GUARDS?) - scarlet cloth with dark blue facings to collar and cuffs, the collar is decorated with 2 lines of bullion lace, each mounted with a white metal or plated button. The cuffs are mounted with four loops of bullion lace and buttons. To the front are two rows of ten buttons mounted in pairs. The tails are tailored with pockets and have white facings mounted with bullion lace and buttons terminated with an eight pointed star of sequins embroidered in centre with a red St Georges cross and garter "Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense". The interior with crimson silk quilted lining. The solid white metal back buttons have a stylised GR cypher and are made by Jennons & Co, London. ++bullion tarnished to silver, some wear and insect damage to outside, black back of collar silk shot and crimson lining faded and worn with service wear some damage to star devices
A Tunic similar to the above labelled inside to 5 Somerset LI E Chilcott and made by J & B Pearse & Co. This example has seven brass GC buttons and shoulder titles in brass (Somerset and separate bugle horn). Marks on collar show where bugle horns were worn, on right sleeve is Sergeants stripes and one bullion proficiency star and on left sleeve bullion marksman badge with proficiency star. ++scarlet bright, some stains and minor insect damage but good condition for age and service
THE MEDALS AND EFFECTS OF MAJOR W.J.R. HEPPELL RE serving with No.4 Commando April 1944 - November 1945. Medals:- Court mounted 1939-45 Star, France/Germany Star, Defence Medal, 1939-45 War Medal (with oak leaf), Territorial Efficiency Decoration George VI with ER clasp dated 1951. Together with set of miniatures. Royal Engineers cap badges, collar badges, boxed Normandy and Dunkirk medal, French Veterans 1944 medal etc. His fighting knife, believed to be No.3 pattern, blued overall, no marks except "No.1" cast in pommel, blade 17.5cms approx. overall 29.5cms in length, good condition, together with leather sheath, elastic missing from top and some service wear. Six officer`s Commando buttons by Pitt & Co, London. Commando Service Certificate signed by Chief of Combined Operations 1945. Large cloth badge and framed certificate for mention in despatches 9/8/45. His Dress Sword 1897 Infantry Officers pattern with George VI cypher, original leather covered scabbard and frog (some staining and service wear). Military issue Compass (arrow stamped). Leather Swagger Stick, unscrews with plumb line. Customs of the Service booklet. Commission as Second Lt Territorial Army 18/9/39. Quantity of service photographs, wall plaques, 1940 newspapers, box of buttons, ribbands etc. NB: Major W J R Heppell was commissioned Second Lieutenant Territorial Army in 1939, serving with the Royal Engineers at Dunkirk 1940. Transferred to No.4 Commando 20/4/44 - 22/11/45. Present at Normandy and mentioned in despatches 1/8/45. Believed retired from Territorials late 1950`s (photograph of him in Dorset 1957 with 109 (Glam) Army Engineer R (TA)
