Chinese Tang Dynasty Female Tomb Figure, 618-907 AD A ceramic figure of a female with hair pulled up into two bums to the top of the head. Painted details to the face, wearing a long robe down to the feet, shawl over shoulders with sash falling down the front. Size: 27.5cm Good overall condition. Provenance: Ex. The Rehearsal: A Mid-18th Century White Mother-of-Pearl Fan, lightly silvered and gilded, the carving in the upper guards classical and quite formal. A single spray of flowers crosses the gorge. The double paper leaf shows an elegant couple, the lady in pale pink with white petticoat, a large plumed hat atop a tall hairstyle, her bodice embellished with a stomacher, her sleeves elbow length and trimmed with lace. The gentleman is holding her right hand, his left hand folded as if pressed to his heart. An elegant gentleman faces the couple and appears to be reading to them from a book, perhaps helping in a wedding rehearsal? He is finely dressed in a long red waistcoat embellished with gilt buttons and braised pocket flaps, mauve breeches, a blonde formal wig, a sword by his side and a long stick on which he leans. Cupid, with a blue sash and quiver containing arrows, supervises the proceedings, fanning flames, an arbour brimming with flower garlands to the rear and many more garlands cast around. To the right another couple seated under a tree, the lady wearing powder blue with a laced front bodice, and lace trimmed elbow length sleeves. A small straw bonnet rests atop her formal hairstyle which allows for tumbling ringlets. Her gentleman companion appears to be wearing a powdered wig. The reserves, painted in mid brown, are highly gilded. On the verso a solitary lady is taking the opportunity to read in a peaceful rural settling. Her deep pink robe is trimmed with lace on the low neckline and elbow length sleeves. Her hair is secured with a blue ribbon. The verso is bordered with pink and blue roses and swathes of leaves. Guard length 27.5cmThe lower guards appear plain but in fact have losses to gilding. Silvering is generally dull but some brightness remains to the gilding. The leaf folds have some rubbing and the leaf is slightly discoloured at the top on the verso. Some slight splitting to a few upper folds.

Queens Bodyguard of Scotland Royal Company of Archers Full Uniform, Headdress and Sword Grouping Contained in the Original Metal Storage Trunk, the grouping consists of the long pattern green cloth tunic with gauntlet cuffs and shoulder wings. Trimmed with black braid and crimson velvet, four bars of black braid across the chest, showing a light crimson velvet. Black braid and crimson velvet also to the collar. Crimson silk shoulder cords with gilt metal button. Fine quality sash with large badge in fine gilt metal to the centre and a lower sash badge in gilt and enamel retaining nearly all the original fire gilt finish; Evening dress tail coat in dark green cloth with green velvet collar. Green silk cloth lining t the interior. Three gilt metal tunic buttons to the front, waist band and tail skirt; Royal Company of Archers cape in green cloth with collar. Bands to the inside to fasten the cape down. Cape lined at the shoulders with green Italian cloth. Gilt metal special pattern cape chains and large gilt metal buttons; Trousers of green cloth with black braid and crimson velvet stripes; 2x variations of the full dress bonnets in green cloth with black braid trim. Crimson tuft to each bonnet. White and green silk cockades with fine gilt metal bonnet badges which retain nearly all of the original fire gilt wash finish. One bonnet with the original eagle feather. One bonnet is stiff type and the other is more like a beret; Black leather belt with sword frog and gilt metal Royal crest plate, the circlet inscribed “Queens Bodyguard for Scotland”; Parade pattern short sword made by Wilkinson sword, ornate gilt metal hilt, acid etched blade with EIIR cipher. Much of the original polish remains to the blade. Housed in the original leather and brass mounted scabbard. Accompanied by other items of accoutrements and housed in the original metal transit trunk with brass name plate engraved “P D GILMOUR ESQ”. A bronze plaque of Hanuman, Karnataka, south India, 19th century AD.A oval bronze plaque depicting the monkey god, Hanuman, striding, small crown to the head with jewellery, sash and garland; raised platform shoes. In the raised right hand the magical medicinal plant Sanjeevani from mount Kailash, that is used to cure Lakshman brother of Rama, after he is wounded in battle; to the left hand, a large plant with two fronds. To the top, the lower coils of a serpent that would have had the figure of Krishna Kalyadana. Below Hanuman is the recumbent figure of a demon holding sword and shield. The piece would have been worn as a pendant by a pilgrim or itinerant mendicant.
