FRENCH, EARLY 18TH CENTURY Portrait of a lady with a blue sash, oval Oil on copper, 14cm x 18cm. Condition Report The frame is in poor condition with moulding missing. The inner oval mount is cracked and faded. There is a scratch over the subject's left shoulder and there are some marks etc. Handwritten on the back, 'Possibly one of the de Whelpdales of Penrith, on copper'.small area of paint loss below females left elbow two cracks to the paintwork on the females left arm Numerous areas of what appears to be overpainting (thicker painted patches) in the field and throughout subjects face is very much spotted with what appears a chemical (oxidisation?) issue.
