Provenance: Private Collection, CanadaCardinal Infante Ferdinand was the son of King Philip III of Spain and the younger brother of the future king, King Philip IV. Following a significant victory against a Swedish-German army at the Battle of Nördlingen, Ferdinand succeeded the Infanta Isabella as Governor of the Spanish Netherlands, finally making his triumphal entry into Antwerp on 17th April 1635. In 1636, Rubens was officially named as the Peintre de l'Hostel de Son Altèze, the post he had previously held under the Archduke Albert and the Archduchess Isabella. Rubens produced a number of portraits of the Cardinal-Infante, including a fully autograph work of the same composition, which was sold at Christie's on 9th July 1993, lot 30 (£397,500 GBP). A fine version, probably period and formerly in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, was also sold at Sotheby's, New York, on 30th January 2014, lot 233 ($16,250 USD). All the half length portraits of the Cardinal-Infante are usually said to derive from the full length equestrian portrait of the sitter at the Battle of Nordlingen by Rubens, now in the Prado, Madrid. However, the existence of a three-quarter length portrait by Rubens at the Ringling Museum of Art, indicates that this portrait type might have been conceived by Rubens independently of the full-length portrait. Condition Report: The canvas has been lined. Craquelure and surface dirt throughout. Rubbing and abrasions to the framing edges. A very fine rare watercolour by Fall of Bone's miniature after John Hoppner of Horatio Nelson, 3½" x 2¾" half length, wearing full dress with Order of the Bath sash and other decorations. In its original plum velvet covered frame with gilt oval inset. Taped linen flap on reverse for table standing, the bottom edge impressed in small gilt letters Fall 9 Baker Street. The portrait is VGC with vivid colour, the rounded oval frame is devoid of all velvet. Note: according to Richard Walker's book on "The Nelson Portaits", published in 1998, there is known an enamel copy made for the Nelson Ward family by Fall, it is now in the Portsmouth Victory Museum and is illustrated on page 247 of "The Nelson Portraits". £100-200

Vintage signed postcard photograph of the Queen Consort seated in a formal three-quarter length pose wearing a sash and tiara. Photograph by Hay Wrightson of New Bond Street, London. Signed (´Mary R´) in fountain pen ink to the base of the image and dated 1947 in her hand. With a few words of holograph text to the verso, sending grateful thanks for some lovely ivory. Accompanied by the original registered envelope hand addressed by the Queen Consort to F. Partridge Esq. at New Bond Street and also signed (´MR´) by her with her initials to the lower left corner. Postmarked 18th December 1947. Together with a good vintage unsigned sepia cabinet photograph, the albumen print by Byrnes & Co. of Richmond depicting the young Princess in a head and shoulders pose. With the photographer´s imprint to the lower mount. Some slight traces of former mounting to the verso of the cabinet photograph, otherwise VG, 2Frank Partridge & Sons Ltd. were one of London´s leading antique dealerships.

A most attractive medal of curious manufacture with bust in high relief, the fields lightly chased and the legends tooled up, neatly pierced at 12 o’clock, good very fine, prettily toned, of superb style and presumed UNQIUE £4,000-£5,000 --- Provenance: H. Montagu Collection, Sotheby Auction, 24-9 May 1897, lot 138; J.G. Murdoch Collection, 2 June 1904, lot 142; S. Stanley Collection; H. Farquhar Collection; Morton & Eden Auction 4, 21 May 2003, lot 1156 The medal presented here was produced in several, distinct, stages. No doubt, the magnificent bust came first; its workmanship being particularly fine and intricate. Next came the legend, of coarser style and incomplete. And, last of all, came the year of the king’s death, fitted in miniscule by the truncation. What began as a trial piece ended up as a memorial medal.
