Ossie Clark for Radley, 1970s Celia Birtwell red, blue and green patterned moss crepe maxi dress with satin trimmed cuffs and neckline and sash, size 10. Condition Report: Whilst there do not appear to be any rips, holes or tears to this garment, there are several areas of staining (under arms and front). There is also some loose stitching on the shoulder pleats and the hem has been turned up.

Choice extremely fine.
WORLD COMMEMORATIVE MEDALS, France, Louis XVI (1754-1774-1793) and Marie-Antoinette (1755-1793), The Birth of the Dauphin, Silver Medal, 1781, by B du Vivier, for the six Guilds of Merchants in Paris, busts vis-à-vis, he with Order on sash, she with bejewelled dress and hair combed high, LUD XVI FR ET NAV REX * MAR ANT AUSTR REG, rev dolphin entwined around ship’s rudder, the fleet sails beyond, ASSERENDI NOVA SPES COMMERCII, legend continues in six lines REGI DE ORTU SS DELPHINI … in exergue, 61mm (Nocq 206). An original striking, extremely fine with only the most minor of handling marks, extremely rare. From the Collection of the Aligre family (Drouot Auction, Paris, 6 April 2005, lot 27), and presumably originally acquired at the time of issue by Étienne François d’Aligre (1727-1798), Magistrate and President of the Parliament of Paris.

Three late Victorian Scottish agate and gem set luckenbooth brooches, each a pierced crowned shield set with different coloured agates around the perimeter, along with 'cairngorms' and other gems: the largest with an oval cut citrine (a 'cairngorm') in the centre and small cabochon gems, possibly garnets and chalcedony, in the crown, the second with a diagonal sash with three oval stones and crown with three round stones (cut citrines and cabochon garnets), maker's lozenge verso, the smallest with a central oval cut citrine, all of white metal with bright cut decoration, 1 and 3 testing for silver, 2 with registered mark, lengths 6.6, 4.8 and 2.7cm (3)

Early 19th century, Scottish School, attributed to John Jules Nimmo (b. 1830), portrait miniature on ivory of an officer with sideburns, wearing a red uniform and a tartan sash, clasp setting, number 24 on the reverse, the image 4.6cm high, in original curved gold frame with belt apertures to the sides and glazed plaited hair to the reverse. Illustrated

A carved schist frieze fragment depicting a yakshi standing bare-chested in a loose skirt, weight borne on the right leg and left foot crossed, with sash and necklace; left arm extended to grasp a frond of the bush to her rear; palmettes to the base; mounted on a custom-made stand. 14 kg, 64cm (25 1/4"). From an important London collection, acquired in the 1970s. The Yaksha are nature spirits who guard treasures that are hidden in the earth or at tree roots. They are often associated with fertility and the protection of villages or areas of sacred land. They are commonly found as guardian figures at shrines in both Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. Fine condition, minor damage to upper body.
18th-19th century AD. A gilt bronze statue of the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, standing on a lotus flower base and having seven arms; the front two in the gesture of blessing, top right hand holding a rosary, middle right holding a bow, lower right a vase; the upper left holding a lotus flower, middle left object missing, lower left a ewer; a long garment is knotted at the waist and falls to the feet; sash around shoulders which falls to feet and billows up; two necklaces on bare chest and each arm has a bracelet and armlet; the long ears have flower shaped earrings and the head has a crown with central Buddha image; the hair is pulled up at the top and falls slightly back in an elongated knot; behind is a halo with flames and a band with figures of the Buddha and lotus flowers, in the centre is a large flower; at the back of the lotus flower stand is a Chinese makers mark. 25 kg, 104cm (41"). Private collection, North London; acquired in the early 1980s. The name Avalokiteshvara means the Lord who Looks Down and he is a bodhisattva of the Buddha's compassion. He is widely revered in China, Tibet and Japan and often assumes both male and female form. He possibly has origins in Hinduism as many of his attributes are similar to those of Shiva and Krishna and it is possible that he is an amalgamation of the two under a Buddhist guise. Fine condition.
Northern Qi Dynasty, 550-577 AD. A hollow-formed ceramic figure of a standing robed female with tall headdress and broad sash and robe, right hand clasped at the chest; pierced to accept a shaft. 314 grams, 21.5cm (8 1/2"). Private collection, North London; acquired in the early 1980s. Fine condition.
