A SILVER REPOUSSE FIGURE OF BUDDHA SHAKYAMUNI, AYUTTHAYA STYLEThailand, 19th century. Finely chased and embossed, seated in dhyanasana atop a triangular lotus pedestal supported by a multi-tiered base with a central brocade hanging halfway down the obverse. Holding his right hand in bhumisparsha mudra and his left in dhyana mudra, wearing a finely ring-punched robe and a floral sash. His serene face with almond-shaped eyes and full lips, and his hair arranged in tight curls surrounding a pointed ketumala. The base reveals the bitumen core of the sculpture. The reverse is incised with six lines of inscription.Provenance: From a private collection in Germany.Condition: Good condition with wear, casting flaws, some losses exposing the bitumen core, minor dents, and small nicks. English School, late 18th century - Oil on panel - Half-length portrait of George Brudenell, 4th Earl of Cardigan, with tied hair, red jacket and blue sash, 24cm x 19cm, in pierced swept gilt frame, with typewritten label verso: "George Brudenell 4th Earl of Cardigan. Born 1712 died 23rd May 1790. Married Lady Mary Montagu 3rd daughter and co. heir of John 2nd Duke of Montagu and last of that creation. Upon the death of his father in law in 1749 George Brudenell assumed the surname and arms of Montagu. On 28th Oct. 1776 he was advanced to a Marquessate and Dukedom, as Marquis of Monthermer and Duke of Montagu. He was installed a knight of the Garter 4th June 1752, sworn of the privy council in 1776, and appointed governor to their Royal Highnesses the Prince of Wales and Prince Frederick. He was created 21st Aug. 1786, Baron Montagu of Boughton. His mother in law was Mary Churchill, youngest daughter of John Duke of Marlborough"

A First World War Cameron Highlander's Kilt and Sash, which belonged to Private George Potts Brown, service No. S/10360, "B" Company, 1st. Battalion Cameron Highlanders., together with his Certificate of Discharge, Character Certificate, War Badge award certificate, also, photocopies of Short Service Attestation Medical Case Sheets, Medical Report on an Invalid, newspaper cuttings and other related research material.Footnote : - Private George Potts Brown was serving with the British Expeditionary Force in France when he was injured on 3rd May 1915 by a shell which exploded in the dug-out he was occupying near La Bassee. The left side of his body was injured and he was partially blinded. In one way, he was lucky to have been injured in a British dug-out rather than out in 'no man's land'. The dug-out was quite close to a dressing station where he was given rudimentary first aid before being transferred to the nearest Base Hospital at Boulogne. He returned to England on the 4th May 1915 and was admitted to the Royal Hospital Chelsea. On the 16th June 1915, George was transferred to St. Dunstan's Hostel in Regents Park, London and was officially discharged from the army in July of the same year, being unfit for War Service. Whilst at St. Dunstan's, George was taught various skills including Braille reading, basket making and typewriter skills. He left St. Dunstan's on the 25th February 1916 and was admitted to After Care, which meant he was found accommodation and financial support. Shell damage of numerous small holes to one side of the kilt, which basically remains intact.
A Late Victorian Full Dress Uniform to an Officer Westmorland and Cumberland Yeomanry, comprising a scarlet Hussar jacket with silver lace trimmed white stand-up collar and cuffs, plaited silver shoulder cords with rank pips to a Lieutenant, large silver Russian braid loops and silver ball and half ball buttons, with silver braided cap lines and olives, cream quilted silk lining with a label inscribed in ink Captain A B Barnaby, 1894; a pair of dark blue overalls with double silver lace on scarlet side stripes; a silver lace and crimson leather waist belt with sword slings; a crossbelt with silver mounts; a barrel sash of crimson silk cords, gold metal thread barrels, acorns and runners; a black fur busby with silver cord trimmed scarlet bag, silver chin scales and plume; a pair of black leather knee boots with nickel box spurs and beech treesJacket with perishing to the silk lining, no visible moth damage. Overalls with some loss of stitches to the side stripe attachments. Busby with loose chinscale attachment to one side, and some perishing of chinscale backing. Waist belt and crossbelt are both a little shabby. Lack chains and prickers.

A full length wedding gown from 1957 in its original C&A box to include veiled headband and other pieces of traditional wedding ephemera. The wedding gown itself is cream damask printed satin with sash to waist and faux pearl button detail to the bodice. There is a starched muslin underskirt to give shape.This Grace Kelly-esque wearable piece is in beautiful vintage condition with no marking or signs of wear to the upper aside from a loose stitch at the top of the zip. Black painted, velvet lined transit tin with two compartments containing an officers crimson silk waist sash with two tassels, an officers crimson silk shoulder sash with flat woven head tassels (one detached), an officers levee pattern shoulder sash in crimson silk and gold wire bullion, and a well worn cravat with red, white and blue stripes, the items belonged to Major, The Reverend, W. Houghton of the Kings Own (Royal Lancaster) Regiment), (William Houghton was born 1st June 1859 in London, he attended the Royal Military College Sandhurst in 1879 and was commissioned 14th January 1880, into the 4th Regiment of Foot (later The Kings Own (Royal Lancaster) Regiment), he appears to have spent much of his service in India, speaking Hindustani and indeed, marrying his wife Anastasia Christina at Bombay in 1894, he also served in Hong Kong and the Straights Settlements, in 1902 he attended the Coronation of King Edward VII as part of the detachment representing the Infantry of the Line, promoted Major in 1903 he retired from the Army in 1907, he presumably returned to the Colours in on the outbreak of war in 1914 though the only record we can find of this is the award of the Silver War Badge, number 383089, it being sent to North Newton Vicarage, Nr Bridgewater, Somerset, William Houghton passed away at Taunton on 16th June 1922)
Attributed Victorian Officers Full Dress uniform to Colonel Reginald Brittan DSO, Derbyshire Regiment, the tunic is in scarlet cloth with cloth collar and cuffs in the regimental facing colour of white, the collar is ornamented with gold lace at the top and Russia braid at the bottom with Queen Victoria Crown Derbyshire Regiment collar badges in silver/enamel, the cuffs are also decorated with gold lace and Russia braid forming an Austrian knot, gilt regimental pattern buttons with Queen Victoria Crown throughout, twisted round gold shoulder cords bearing the rank badges for a Lieutenant Colonel in bullion embroidery, red cotton loops for a medal bar to the left breast, blue cloth dress trousers with scarlet stripe to the seams, Wellington Boots with swan neck spurs complete with boot trees, Officers buff leather sword belt and slings with Waist Belt Clasp to the Derbyshire Regiment in silver/gilt, buff leather sword knot, transit tin containing gold lace and red Morroco leather sword belt, officers sash, and under tunic sword belt, the uniform can be seen being worn in the family portrait of Colonel Brittan (not part of this lot), (Reginald Brittan was born at Clifton, Gloucestershire on 26th January 1865,educated at Clifton and Marlborough Colleges, after attending the Royal Military college joined the 1st Battalion Derbyshire Regiment (The sherwood foresters) with the rank of Lieutenant in August 1885, and promoted Captain in July 1892, he was married to Alice Gisborne on 22nd November 1893 at Derby, he was appointed Adjutant 4th Battalion Sherwood Foresters on 1st March 1895 and served in the South African War in that role from January 1900 to May 1901, he was Mentioned in Despatches, London Gazette, September 1901, created Companion of the Distinguished Service Order , London Gazette 27th September 1901, 'Reginald Brittan, Captain, Derbyshire regiment. In recognition of services during operations in South Africa', gazetted Lieutenant Colonel July 1908 and command 4th Battalion Sherwood Foresters, at outbreak of war in 1914 given command in UK of 14th Battalion Sherwood Foresters which was later renamed 13th Battalion, Training Reserve, and then 53rd Battalion Sherwood Foresters, demobilised in April 1919 he was awarded the O.B.E. A J.D Kestner 171 bisque head girl doll in original clothes, German circa 1910, with weighted brown glass eyes, open mouth, upper teeth and brown wig, on a fully jointed wood and composition body and wearing a cream cotton dress with pink sash, underclothes, bonnet, socks and shoes, 30” (76cm) tall, (condition: good, one finger re-glued).
‘Stack House’ a good and important early English painted wooden dolls house and contents, circa 1820, previously on display at the Vivien Greene Dolls House museum, the façade and sides with painted trompe l’oeil, creating a convincing red brick Regency house with stone string course, panelled front door with fanlight, Doric columns to portico and nine sash windows with painted blinds, the kitchen window is particularly interesting and shows a wire blind to keep out flies and a maidservant peering over, awaiting visitors perhaps, the black pitch roof has two chimneys, the front opens in two wings to four rooms, hallway and landing, mounted on a wooden stand. Hallway: this is entered by a painted wooden archway with painted marbled columns, leading to staircase with red silk carpet and ochre painted walls. Kitchen: with plain wood walls and floor, Evans and Cartwright tinplate cooking range with wooden fire surround and brass hand wound mechanical spit Jack, fixed hanging wooden shelves and a selection of kitchen furniture including wooden table, chairs, tinplate Evans & Cartwright chair, food, pots, pans, plates, serving dishes, kettle, utensils and more. Ground floor dining room: with cream floral wallpapers, Evans and Cartwright tinplate fireplace and painted wooden ‘marbled’ surround, good amount of furniture to include wooden tables, pink upholstered chairs with settee, bureau, bird in cage, chessboard (incomplete), and various ornaments, together with two bisque shoulder head seated gentlemen. First floor landing: with blue floral wallpapers, chest of drawers, pram and painted wooden Grodnertal doll in original clothes. Provenance: The house originates from Settle in Yorkshire, where it is believed to have remained in Stack House with one family for more than one hundred years, it was subsequently sold to, an antique dealer in Sussex who sold it to Miss Mary Titcomb a friend of Vivien Greene’s, the House features in ‘English Dolls’ Houses of the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Century’ Vivien Greene’s first book on Dolls Houses and the house was later exhibited in her famous Rotunda Museum, Oxford. The house was sold in 1998 by Bonhams Auctioneers, London as part of the Vivien Greene museum collection. Jennifer Le Masurier later acquired the house and has since done further extensive research into the history and family which will all be offered with the house.
