Property of a Gentleman of Chelsea. Thailand or Laos (18th - 19th Century), A bronze seated monk (the venerable monk Phra Malai). Gilt bronze. This sculpture depicts Phra Malai seated in bhumisparsimudra with his left hand holding the remains of his monastic fan, and wearing a thin sanghati (monastic robe) with a narrow sash over the left shoulder, with extensive traces of gilding. There is fine line around part of the border and a small spot of discolouration just above the sitter's right shoulder. The work has not been examined out of the frame and there is dust and dirt trappped behind the glazing.
A decadent Art Deco 1930s evening gown with matching bolero and sash belt, fashioned from black taffeta and having a layer of fine tulle decorated with multi coloured glittered dots over the skirt and sequinned flowers towards hem, fairly low neckline and straps also having sequinned detail, as does the bolero and ends of sash belt, small to medium size.
Ca. 1368-1644 AD or later .A glazed terracotta mingqi depicting a standing attendant on a tiered, integral base. He is portrayed in a noble and dignified manner, with an upright posture and an expression of calm composure. The gentle contours of the figure's face, including the high cheekbones, a prominent nose, and small lips, are carefully crafted with fine details such as the almond-shaped eyes, and the delicately arched eyebrows. The figure is dressed in a long, flowing green robe with contrasting accents on the sides, which are painted in red. The robe is tied with a sash of ochre color, which enhances the elegance of the ensemble. The figure carries an object under his left arm and his both hands are clenched. Mingqi, or "spirit objects," were created to be buried with the deceased and were believed to accompany the soul into the afterlife. These objects were often crafted with great attention to detail and were intended to represent the various aspects of life that would be important in the afterworld. Cf. Ca. 1800-1900 AD.A gilt-bronze figure of Arya Tara modelled in the round in meditating pose with eyes half-closed and a utpala flower to each upper arm; D-shaped lotus flower dais, hollow with panel to the underside. The left hand is raised, while the right rests on the knee. Both are in vitarkamudra, a symbolic gesture of contemplation and discussion. The figure is elegantly draped in a dhoti, secured with a beaded sash, and adorned with fine jewelry, including necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and an intricately decorated tiara.
