WILLIAM ALFRED GIBSON (SCOTTISH 1866 - 1931),DUTCH RIVER SCENE AND WINDMILLoil on canvas, signed, titled label versoimage size 42cm x 51cm, overall size 50cm x 60cm Framed. Label verso: Aitken Dott & Son, Edinburgh. Note: William Alfred Gibson was born in Glasgow in 1866 and educated in the city. He spent ten years in the Royal Glasgow Queen's Yeomanry and saw service in the Boer War. After the war he turned to painting, mostly landscapes in oil, being influenced by the Dutch school and Corot, both in subject matter and in the subdued tones of silvery greys, greens and browns which he used. His favourite subjects were river views in Scotland and Holland characterised by powerful leaden grey skies and broken brushwork. Gibson exhibited at the RA, RSA, GI and abroad. He worked in Scotland, England, Holland and France and his work is represented in numerous major public collections around the UK including Glasgow Museums, The Hunterian, Paisley Art Institute, Aberdeen Museums & Galleries, Highland Council, East Ayrshire Council, Highland Council, Perth & Kinross Council and The McLean Museum & Art Gallery.

Serial No.65698, cherry red with white binding, rosewood fingerboard with rectangular inlay, black scratchplate, two humbucker pick-ups, adjustable bridge, four control dials, three-way switch, and 'Gibson' inlayed on headstock, with serial number stamped on back of headstock as well as on label inside body (in manufacturers hard case)The guitar was bought new by the vendor in 1963 at Jeavons of Percy Street, Newcastle-upon-Tyne and has had one owner since new. The only repair was to the selector switch and the bridge was replaced by another Gibson bridge. Victory Medal 1914-19 (4) (Capt. H. G. Robinson; Lieut C. Garred; 2. Lieut. D. H. Fenner R.A.F.; Major A. G. Gibson) generally very fine (4) £70-£90 --- Harold Godfrey Robinson was born in Clevedon, Somerset, on 27 October 1886, and was commissioned into the North Staffordshire Regiment as a Second Lieutenant in May 1907, being promoted Lieutenant in October 1909. He was serving on the Northwest Frontier with the 2nd Battalion in 1914, and by 1917 was serving with the 1st Battalion on the Western Front. He was killed in action on 12 June 1917 and is buried in the Railway Dugouts Burial Ground, France. Claude Garred was born on 23 April 1890 and at age 18 attested for the Royal Garrison Artillery. He served during the Great War on the Western Front from 17 July 1915 before being commissioned Second Lieutenant on 21 December 1916, and was promoted to Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery on 21 June 1918. David Horace Fenner joined the Royal Flying Corps as 7225 Airman, Second Class before receiving his commission as Second Lieutenant, and joined the Royal Air Force upon its formation on 1 April 1918. Two Majors with the name A. G. Gibson are noted as serving during the Great War, in the Army Service Corps and Royal Army Medical Corps respectively.

Three-piece Victorian silver tea set consisting of a squat teapot, twin handled sucrier and milk/cream jug, bearing marks for Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co (William Gibson & John Lawrence Langman), London, 1893, tallest is 10cm high, 1005g approx overall (3)Condition report: All have tarnish, signs of wear and light scratches, consistent with age and use. The milk/cream jug has a dent to one side near the rim. The spout of the teapot is ever so slightly mis-shapen, however this looks like it is due to use rather than damage. Some of the hallmarks are slightly rubbed.

Since that time it has undergone some restoration and re-touching to the face and headdress are visible under UV. The frame has a couple of cracks and re-touching to the gold surface, but overall it is in ready-to-hang condition.

* LOUISE GIBSON ANNAND MBE (SCOTTISH 1915 - 2012),UNTITLEDoil on boardimage size 62cm x 48cm, overall size 76cm x 62cm Framed.Note: Louise Annand was a Scottish painter and film-maker, she graduated from Glasgow University in 1937 with Honours in English Literature whilst simultaneously pursuing her love of art and drawing with night classes in art. She was a major contributor to Scottish documentary and was an influential female filmmaker in a field that was dominated mostly by males. She mingled with such luminaries as J D Fergusson and Margaret Morris, eventually becoming president of the JD Fergusson Foundation. Despite her dual existence as artist and teacher, Miss Annand found time to act as a member of the business committee of the University of Glasgow and as chairman of the Glasgow Graduates Association. She served on the Fine Art Commission for Scotland and as president both of the Society of Scottish Women Artists (now VAS) and of the Glasgow Society of Women Artists. Her role as educator was marked with the award of the MBE in 1980, while Glasgow University recognised the artist with an honorary doctorate in 1997. Her book about J D Fergusson (1939 – 61) was published in 2003, while a retrospective exhibition of her painting was held at the Lillie Gallery, Milngavie in 2004
