A PAIR OF PEARLWARE BOUGH POTS WITH RED ENAMEL AND SILVER LUSTRE DECORATION, PROBABLY STAFFORDSHIRE, C1810-15 16cm h An example with similar painted pseudo heraldic decoration is illustrated Gibson (Michael), Nineteenth Century Lustreware, Woodbridge 1999, plt 51. ++One with descending hairline crack in the back and several chips around the inner flange, not usually visible. Slight wear up to the lustre around the footrim. The other with several glaze depth internal hairline cracks in the back that cannot be seen from the other side, rather more wear and scratches to the silver lustre around the footrim. Both good examples and scarce as a pair

Published 1777 AD. First edition, by John Gibson (Merchant in Glasgow), published 'for the author' [title; preface, vii pp.; text, 391 pp.], original full calf boards, later spine reinforcement, text block solid. Walter Steinberg has been a well-known figure at fairs, sales and events for many years. Born in 1922 in Philadelphia, Walter has had a life-long passion for collecting. A long-time resident in London, he has now retired to New York and decided that the time has come to pass on the antiquities and coins he has collected over his lifetime. Walter acquired coins and artefacts that interested him, so his collection, although containing many lovely examples, also contains many affordable specimens. Much of the material has been unavailable to the market for 30 to 50 years. CONDITION REPORT: Significant noticeable crazing to a significant area. A little grubby. Frame has wear but no serious damage.

Full pressed calf, re-spined with gilt lettering and raised bands. CONDITION REPORT: Appears intact and complete, re-spined, text generally in good condition with pull-out illustrations, some minor staining particularly to early leaves and foxing spots.
Sterling Silver Charles Gibson Patent Medicine Spoon by Henry Flavelle, Dublin, Ireland, 1829.Hallmarked for Dublin with 1829 duty mark (partly rubbed), maker mark for Henry Flavelle.Charles Gibson invented this form of spoon in 1827.For this ingenious invention he was awarded the Society’s silver medal.The spoon is filled through the hinged lid on the bowl.The lid (when closed) forms an airtight seal.The stem of the spoon, which is connected to its bowl, is hollow.Placing a finger over the end of the stem prevents the contents from escaping through the slot at the tip of the spoon until it is put into the patient’s mouth.The finger can be slowly removed allowing the liquid to flow.14.5cm / 5.7in.
