He was commissioned on August 31, 1940, and arrived at 6 OUT, Sutton Bridge. After converting to Hurricanes, Westlake was posted to 43 Squadron at Usworth on 21 September 1940. He moved to 213 Sqn at Tangmere on the 29th and he claimed a BF 109 destroyed on 15th November 1940. Moorcroft pottery table lamp decorated with red flowers and leaves, marked to the baize base, 26cm high, a larger Moorcroft lamp, 30cm high overall including the fitting and Gibson & Sons pedestal bowl decorated with fruit, printed marks to the base, 14cm high overall (3)The pedestal bowl has crazing, marks and scratches, water damage and stains to the interior. Is dull when tapped. We do not know if the two lamps are working. We have not been able to test them. The larger lamp has damage/losses to the wooden base. Small lamp has wear and tiny losses to the wooden base. Both are quite grubby and need a clean.

Althea Neale Gibson (August 25, 1927 - September 28, 2003) was an American tennis player and professional golfer, and one of the first Black athletes to cross the colour line of international tennis. Four 19th century maritime journals, all written by Thomas J Lane, dating from 1874, journals one and two document his voyage as a steerage passenger on the Barque Joceslyn, beginning April 22nd 1874, sailing from London to Melbourne, he starts his journal 'After some five days delay I am very happy and comfortable...' and goes on to document his thoughts, experiences, and observations, the third journal documents a gentleman's voyage from London to Melbourne aboard Clarence, commanded by Captain Gibson, sailing from Gravesend, November 8th 1870, it begins 'I was unable to sleep and very homesick...' and goes on to describe all the sights, sounds and beauty of the voyage, the fourth volume documents his voyage on the S.S Ballarat from Cape Town, South Africa, all handwritten in pencil. Footnote: The diaries belonged to a Canadian lady who was related to a Mr James Clark, captain of the Marco Polo sailing from Melbourne to Liverpool in 1855, he also captained the ship Lightning from Melbourne to Liverpool in 1859 in a record breaking voyage, there is a silver salver presented to him for said voyage which is now in the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich.
