Lt Gen Ivor Maxse, a veteran of the Sudan campaign, the Boer War and WW1, also commander of the XVIII corps. Claude Congreave Dobson RN, who won a VC during the Russian Civil War. Interestingly there is also the signature of the well known Zulu War veteran, and one of very few British survivors of the Battle of Isandlwana, Horace Lockwood Smith Dorrien (1858-1930). Smith-Dorrien was a transport officer at Isandlwana when the British lines were overwhelmed by the vast numbers of Zulu Impis. He managed to flee the carnage on his pony, covering over 20 mile while being pursued by 20 Zulus. The collection is made up of loose signatures, and some letters, with the total numbering approximately 183 in total. Notes: all of the signatures were obtained circa 1919 by a Boy Scout named Archibald Gibson. It’s known that Archie wrote to many of the heroes of WW1, including many VC winners, and T.E.Lawrence aka Lawrence of Arabia, who’s signatures and letter have already been sold by ourselves. Only a small selection of the signatures are shown in the images. Condition: generally good. Some age related wear / browning to some, but on the whole very good. Some of the signatures would appear to have been pasted in an album in the past, but they seem to have been cleanly removed.
