A large collection of WW1 officers signatures, including Army, Navy, RFC / RAF, many being highly decorated and high ranking individuals. Highlights include, Lt Col Dudley Graham Johnson VC, CB, DSO & Bar, MC of the 24th Regiment / South Wales Borderers (VC won on November 4th 1918). Plus Lionel Warren de Vere Sadlier-Jackson CB, CMG, DSO & Bar, Lt Col Raymond Collishaw RNAS, Major General Sir Harold Ruggles-Brise who was mentioned in dispatches 5 times during the Boer War, Archibald Walter Buckle RN, Commander of the Anson Battalion and recommended for a VC, Arnold Nugent Strode Strode-Jackson CBE DSO with 3 bars and also a Gold Medal Olympian (1500m) in the 1912 Olympics. Also, Captain Berwick Curtis RN CB CMG. DSO & Bar who was mentioned in dispatches at the Battle of Jutland. Robert Brooke-Popham RFC, who earned a DSO for the Battle of Neuve Chapelle. Scottish flying ace, Major William John Charles Kennedy Cochran DSO, MC & bar. Major J W Watkins MC DSO of the Lancashire Fusiliers. Lt Gen Alexander Godley, a veteran of Gallipoli and commander of the ANZAC corps. Philip Chetwode 1st Baron Chetwode, a Boer War Siege of Ladysmith veteran. Lt Gen Ivor Maxse, a veteran of the Sudan campaign, the Boer War and WW1, also commander of the XVIII corps. Claude Congreave Dobson RN, who won a VC during the Russian Civil War. Interestingly there is also the signature of the well known Zulu War veteran, and one of very few British survivors of the Battle of Isandlwana, Horace Lockwood Smith Dorrien (1858-1930). Smith-Dorrien was a transport officer at Isandlwana when the British lines were overwhelmed by the vast numbers of Zulu Impis. He managed to flee the carnage on his pony, covering over 20 mile while being pursued by 20 Zulus. The collection is made up of loose signatures, and some letters, with the total numbering approximately 183 in total. Notes: all of the signatures were obtained circa 1919 by a Boy Scout named Archibald Gibson. It’s known that Archie wrote to many of the heroes of WW1, including many VC winners, and T.E.Lawrence aka Lawrence of Arabia, who’s signatures and letter have already been sold by ourselves. Only a small selection of the signatures are shown in the images. Condition: generally good. Some age related wear / browning to some, but on the whole very good. Some of the signatures would appear to have been pasted in an album in the past, but they seem to have been cleanly removed.
