Portrait of Carlo Scarpa. 1980. Mixed media and collage on paper. Cm 90,00 x 140,00. Signature lower right. Unique piece. Felt pen on acetate, cardboard collage and serigraphic ink. Provenance: Cleto Munari collection, Venice. Pubblications: Domus (n. 603), 1980 February (photo by Grazia Vigo, the artist with the work bejind him); Achille Bonito Oliva, "La figura delle cose", Cleto Munari in Castel Sant'Angelo, Electa, Napoli, 1999, p.69. The work had been commissioned to the artist by Cleto Munari for whom Scarpa had designed a famous silver cutlery set. Andy Warhol started with a beautiful photograph by Luciano Svegliado, in which Scarpa dresses an elegant cotton jacket with white and blue stripes with a Movado pocket watch; the same photo that Scarpa himself had chosen to present himself at the RIBA's solo show in London, in February 1974. Warhol cut off his head, turned it up and redesigned the outlines of his face on his own, leaving the physiognomy of the professor perfectly recognizable .The acetate sheet superimposed on the portrait shows a striking frame of cutlery, knives, forks, spoons; those that Cleto Munari was marketing in the United States..
