A nickel cased fusee watch dating from circa 1860 this large watch measures 2⅜” diameter and the dial is marked L. & N.W.R John Walker 230 Regent Street London. W, the movement is engraved JNo Walker 48 Princes St & Leicester Sq and the back of the case is engraved Goods Department 40 although this is barely visible. The English Lever fusee movement has recently been cleaned and oiled and is in perfect working condition. A rare pre grouping watch.

Great Northern Railway Pocket Watch No 247, by John Walker London. A high quality English lever watch with top wind and pin set for the hands. The movement is engraved 9434 JN Walker 77 Cornhill London and is in clean working condition. The dial is free from chips and has Great Northern, John Walker 77 Cornhill London enamelled onto it. The Nickel case has Great Northern No 247 hand engraved to the rear, although this is somewhat worn. A lovely pre grouping watch and a rare survivor, it was owned by the late William Goodliff of Grantham who spent his working life as a guard on the Great Northern and later LNER and became an Alderman and Mayor of Grantham in 1951.

The dial is free from chips and has GWR enamelled below the XII position as well as the makers name. The good quality Nickel case has GWR hand engraved onto it and the number 3064 machine engraved, the numbered movement 328239 is fully signed Lancashire Watch Co Ltd Prescot & London and the records show that this was made with 4 pairs of extra jewels. In working condition, this type of watch is the rarest GWR pattern of all.
