A Urania stainless steel chronograph/telemeter gentleman's wristwatch, silver coloured dial, Arabic numerals, subsidiary second and minute dials, later leather strap, w/o The Urania company for precision watches was founded by Andreas Huber in Munich in 1865 and was the first German business to offer pocket watches with crown winding systems. Urania was the “house brand” of Huber retail stores. These watches were made by the jeweller Huber in München (Munich, Bavaria). Since they were more of a jeweller than a watch store, they didn't make much themselves but simply bought movements and cases/dials/hands of sufficient quality, assembled them all together and sold them under a variety of brand names. After 1930, Urania was the top grade they sold. Some movements were from Recta, Helvetia or even IWC. In 1936, the company became official timekeeper of the olympic winter games in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. During WWII, the company produced for A. Lange & Söhne parts of the legendary military timepieces like the B-Uhr. In 1944, through the bombs of WWII, production and shops were completely destroyed. In 1949, Andreas II rebuilded the main house in Munich and reopened the watchmaker store and workshop. 1966 he died and his son Martin took over the company. Alongside Urania branded dials, there are some rare co signed Urania dials prior to Huber taking over the mantle.
