Footnote: Daniel Read is mentioned in "Suffolk Clocks & Clockmakers" published 1974 by A L Haggar and L F Miller with the following information ~ IPSWICH. Born c.1794, active 1814-1858. Grandson of Thomas Read, one of the finest later makers in the country. Daniel Read owned a shop on St Matthew's Street (Ipswich) adjoining the Queen's Head Inn and was made a Freeman of the Borough in September 1815. He was succeeded by his sons, Daniel, Frederick and Augustus.
