An electroplated memorial goblet, by Mappin & Webb, the thistle shaped cup with wrythen gadrooning to the lower section, on a knopped column to a domed spreading foot with similar gadrooning to the upper section, inscribed ïDenys Hammonds-KingÍs School Canterbury-Killed in Action-March 30th 1913Í, 13.7cm tall Major Denys Huntingford Hammonds of the 225th Field Company, Royal Engineers was killed in action on March 30th 1918, aged 30. Son of the Rev. Prebendary Hammonds and Mrs Hammonds of 37 North Street, Chichester, Sussex, educated at KingÍs School, Canterbury. B.Sc (Lond.), he has no known grave, but is Remembered with Honour at the Pozieres Memorial, Somme, France.
