Inglis.), extremely fine, 2nd Lieutenant Alexander Alves Inglis, served on the Western Front with 126th Field Company, Royal Engineers from 4.2.1916, killed in action during the Battle of Thiepval Ridge 26.9.1916, Inglis is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France A Casualty Group to Fifth Engineer Officer J.L. Paterson, Merchant Navy, who was lost when the M.V. Kars was struck by a torpedo, 22.2.1942, 1939-1945 Star, Atlantic Star, War Medal, extremely fine, with transmission slip and letter of condolence from Buckingham Palace, and various paperwork relating to Paterson`s widow Mrs Jean Paterson including her Identity Card Fifth Engineer Officer John Lang Paterson (1913-1942), a native of Glasgow, killed in action whilst serving in M.V. Kars 22.2.1942. On the evening of the 22nd September at 22.57hrs, the Kars was hit by a U-96 G7e torpedo, south of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada which impacted and resulted in the vessel catching fire and breaking into two three days later. The forepart sank and the afterpart was towed to Halifax and beached on 27.2.1942. A total of 45 crew members and 4 gunners were lost. Paterson is commemorated on the Tower Hill Memorial, London, A Silver Plated `Battle of Britain` Tankard, engraved `No 222 Squadron, R.A.F., Hornchurch 1940`, by Mappin and Webb, No. 222 Squadron, involved in heavy action in the Battle of Britain from May - November 1940, and an associated silver plated Masonic cigarette box, with presentation inscription to `W. Bro: A. Benabo` (7)
