A Silver-Plated Cocktail-Shaker, by Mappin and Webb, 20th Century, After a Design by Keith Murray, tapering form with reeded decoration and stepped cover and shoulder, 25cm high Keith Murray was born in New Zealand in 1892, moving with his family to the UK in 1906. He initially trained as an architect and became an associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects in 1921. The depression of 1929 led him to seek opportunities as a designer instead, first glass and, by 1934, silver for Mappin and Webb. He also produced designs for Wedgwood and, on returning to work as an architect designed their new factory in Barlaston.
