A World War II Caterpillar Club brooch, engraved verso Sgt. D McLeod, with ruby set eyes, yellow metal, unmarked, 2cm long, in a Mappin and Webb Ltd box presented by Irvin Air Chute of GT Britain Ltd, together with a group of pictures by repute smuggled out of Stalag VIII B, with notes to each photograph verso, together with birth, marriage and death certificates for the recipient. Warrant Officer (Second Pilot) McLeod Douglas Carmichael was born on the 14th December 1918. McLeod was a crew member of RAF Whitley EB 297 of 297 Squadron who was shot down on the 20th February 1942. All five crew exited the aircraft, two evaded capture while the three remaining became prisoners of war who were liberated in 1945. One of these prisoners of war was the co-pilot Warrant Officer Douglas Carmichael McLeod.
