A George V Munitions Factory silver medal the obverse inscribed Ponders End Shell Works 8. Shop 21 Dec 1918, the reverse Awarded to J.W. Wilson for highest average output during 1918 on both shifts rough turning, maker James Fenton & Co, Birmingham, 1918, in Mappin and Webb blue leather case.The Ponders End Shell Factory was established in late 1914 and became one of the largest munitions works in the country. In 1918 during the German offensive the workers doubled their production working around the clock, for which this medal was awarded, a similar example can be found at the Imperial War Museum.
