Houses of Parliament A collection of British Parliamentary material compiled principally in the 1970s by a former employee of the House Refreshment Department, fondly regarded according to the friendly messages and cards. The collection includes letters, signed photographs, House Christmass cards, dinner programmes signed by guests and even two paintings by George Strauss and a Mappin & Webb House of Commons ½ pint tasting cup and Bradleigh entrée dish. The names include luminaries of the House of the time, such as Jim Callaghan, Reggie Paget, Barbara Castle, and Lords Rhodes and Houghton. There is also an autograph book conveying good wishes on retirement from further representatives such as Alice Bacon, Lord Hailsham, Geoffrey Howe, and Harold Wilson (whose wife Mary has signed one of the programmes). A memory of Houses now past and a reminder of the people who also served, but whose names did not crowd the covers of newspapers, this collection is a glimpse not of the workings of the political establishment, but rather of those of its home.
