A Napoleon III walnut secretaire à abbatant, the flared, moulded pediment on foliate scroll brackets, over a single drawer and burr walnut fielded panelled fall, enclosing an interior in pale bird's eye maple with seven tulipwood banded drawers and a baize writing surface, over three long drawers, on bun feet, 41 x 21½in. (104 x 54.5cm.), 67in. (170cm.) high.

A small Regency mahogany secretaire bookcase, the top half with moulded cornice above a pair of glazed doors with wooden astragals and brass edging strip enclosing adjustable shelves, the base with secretaire drawer above a pair of panelled cupboard doors flanked by half round columns and raised on short lobed feet. Width 81.5 cm, depth 56 cm, height 190 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: Height to bottom of secretaire drawer 68 cm, height of top bookcase 93 cm, depth at cornice 38 cm. The cornice is in generally good order with only a minor loss to the front left hand corner. The upper doors are in good condition with no significant warping. We do not have the key. The spring loaded right hand door retainer is not operating correctly and the door springs open. A key would rectify this. The sides of the piece are all in good order with no significant splits or damage. The secretaire drawer has minor sections of cockbeading missing but operate as it should. The tooled leather writing surface is scuffed and worn and has some losses. The lock escutcheon to the interior door is loose. The base doors are in good condition with only minor marks and scuffs. Unlike the upper doors the right hand bottom door snaps shut on the spring as it should. The bottom moulding has minor scuffs and marks. The feet are original as are the backboards.
