LINKE LOUIS XVI STYLE BUREAU A CYLINDREProperty Of A Coral Gables Gentleman: FRANCOIS LINKE LOUIS XVI STYLE GILT-BRONZE MOUNTED MAHOGANY MARQUETRY AND PARQUETRY BUREAU A CYLINDRE Late 19th/Early 20th Century. Stamped CT LINKE/SERRURERIE/PARIS and numbered 100. After the model by Jean-Henri Riesner. Inlaid overall with lozenge-parquetry. The top has pierced three-quarter gallery. The roll-top is inlaid with an oval musical trophy within ribbon-tied floral surround, opening to reveal sixteen pigeon-holes, a compartment, and a mechanically retracting gilt-tooled black leather writing surface. Below is a central concealed frieze drawer with cloudborne-putti plaque. Flanked on each side is a drawer with flower-filled basket and scrolling foliate handles. The sides have plaques emblematic of the Arts. Raised on square tapering legs and acanthus-cast feet. Height 43 1/2, Width 42 1/2, Depth 24 3/4 inches. Provenance: European Lady Literature: Francois Linke, 1855-1946, "The Belle Epoque of French Furniture" by Christopher Payne, index number 100, page 488, illustrated. This secretaire a cylindre in the Louis XVI style, is a variant of the bureau with mother-of-pearl trellis marquetry made by Riesener for Marie-Antoinette`s boudoir at Fontainebleau in 1786. The "poetic" trophy was, no doubt, inspired by the ormolu medallion accompanying a tablet of festive putti, on Marie Antoinette`s secretaire a abattant, also by Riesener, in the Prince Demidoff Collection, sold San Donato, 22 March 1870, lot 282.Start Price: $30,000
