A 19th century mahogany campaign secretaire chest with inset handles to the front and iron carrying handles to the side, the secretaire drawer fitted with small drawers and pigeon holes within, 93cm wide x 53cm deep x 98cm highComplete with a certificate of naval service for Richard Smith of the 'Harrier' and 'Nile' dated 1835 and with further provenance stating that in 1867 he left in his chest of drawers to his sister Mary Smith.In need of restoration with losses to the veener of the front surrounds to the drawers, the iron carrying handles probably later. The bracket feet later, escutcheon missing to the lower drawer and one handle to the drawer replaced with turned bone handles to the secretaire drawers with one lacking and two replaced with old brass ones.

AN EMPIRE 'PLUM PUDDING' MAHOGANY AND ORMOLU MOUNTED SECRETAIRE A ABBATANT BY JACOB FRERES, RUE MESLEE, CIRCA 1800 The variegated black and pink marble top with reeded edge over a tongue and dart band and S shaped frieze, centred by a four petal florette mount, with worn stamp for 'JACOB FRERES, RUE MESLEE' beneath the marble142cm high, 95cm wide, 43cm deep Provenance: By repute Galerie B.J.F, 27 Rue de Verneuil, Paris. 'Jacob Frères, Rue Meslée' was the stamp used by Georges II Jacob and François-Honoré-Georges Jacob (sons of Georges Jacob, the prominent Parisian master menuisier) from 1797 to 1803. The brothers most famous client was Josephine, wife of Napoleon Bonaparte, and she used the firm to decorate various imperial residences including the Tuileries Palace, Paris. Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Some old splits and chips. The central mount/escutcheon to the upper drawer is loose. Marble with the expected chips and 'nibbles' to edges. Timber of cleaned/polished appearance. Please note, the upper line of the stamp is very indistinctly marked - see images. The leather surface to the interior of the fall is a later replacement. There is a small plugged hole to one side of the interior - see image. KEIL BROADWAY'; there is also an ink written label to the carcase under the lower of three drawers behind the internal central door 'Property of Lt. Col. G. ?L. A George III mahogany secretaire chest, the fall-front top drawer opening to reveal a central lockable compartment with inlaid decoration depicting Britannia, flanked by arched pigeonholes, three long graduated drawers below with brass oval handles, on splayed bracket feet, with key, 112 x 56 x 112cm high.
An antique French Kingwood and marquetry escritoire, with detachable marble top, fall front secretaire and three drawers beneath, with bombe sides and raised on short legs terminating in sabot feet. Height 133 cm, width 59 cm, depth 35 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The marble top is in good condition all round. There are no cracks, chips or significant scratches. The main body of the cabinet is also in very good condition with no significant blemishes. There is a minor veneer loss to the rear left-hand side at the back. There are minor stress fractures to the veneers at the top of the legs below the corners of the bottom drawers. All metalwork is present as are all locks. The dark vertical line +/- 4 cm to the right-hand side of the flap corresponds with a very slight ripple in the veneer, although this is slightly darker we are not sure. The interior is in good order.
