A mahogany secretaire bookcase, second quarter of the 19th century, flared cornice, glazed top with mouldings, fitted with adjustable shelves, lower cabinet with cock beading and fluted quarter column corners, top drawer opening to reveal bird's eye maple veneered drawers, panelled doors, further cock beading and stood on fluted feet, width 106cm, depth 51cm & height 204cm. Condition- some general wear to include surface marks and scratches. There is some beading loose and a small amount missing.

Old splits and chips. Old veneer and moulding repairs - see images. Some filler used in places. There are shadows to the cornice beneath the arcaded moulding where it appears to have had lower tip elements which have been removed - see images. One glazed panel is an old replacement. It is using old glass but the putty used to secure differs from the others. Splits and opening to the backboards of the upper section. Filler has been applied to one split to try and disguise. One sliding tray to the lower section is lacking. The hinges to one lower door are replacements. The lock to the lower doors is also a replacement. Keys are present for both locks and operate them. However both are quite 'sticky'.Some very minor evidence of old worm. Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition. Condition Report Disclaimer

Please note: the handles of this item are ivory and therefore this lot should be marked for CITES and may be subject to CITES regulations.Condition Report: Marks, scratches and abrasions comensurate with age and useSome old repairs, some minor old losses. Old splits and chips. Some additional indented marks. There is a partial dark ring mark to the top surface. Careful polishing by a restorer could likely improve the appearance of this. Some of the pigeon holes to the interior bear old ink inscriptions (see images) probably of 19th century date. The leather insets with marks, abrasions and some discoloration. The main central leather panel with some untidiness and losses at the edges and some lifting (see images) Some staining to drawers interiors including some old ink stains(see images) The main writing drawer with evidence of a split to the floor of the drawer. (see image)Some fairly straightforward attention appears likely to be required (by a restorer) to the fitting/ fixture of the sliding top above the writing surface and the section of timber above it. None are damaged or broken but may need simple adjustment/ re-fixing in order to operate entirely satisfactorily. The drawer handles to the interior all appear to match and be original. They are generally in fair original condition. They are ivory. Lacking keys but the lock is open. The lock appears original. The desk/ writing table is finished very well on all sides so can be a free-standing piece of furniture if required. Please refer to all additional images for visual reference to condition. Some draw pulls lacking to the secretaire, action is good. Lower cupboard lock is lacking, key is absent. Numerous scuffs and chips around the plinth. Back replaced. No signs of worm. Secretaire drawer carcass is solid mahogany. Cornice is removable. Handles appear original.

A 19th century German "Biedermeier" secretaire cabinet, with moulded cornice above a series of drawers secretaire and cupboards. Height 146 cm, width 103 cm, depth 45 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The secretaire cabinet is in generally fairly good order. Whilst the top is polished mahogany it may at some point have had a marble top. There is a full width split to the top and the pegged screw holes are visible further suggesting that a marble may have been present. The edge ripple moulding has a loss around the left hand corner which should be visible on our image. The remainder of the cornice is in good condition all round as is the frieze beneath and the drawer. The secretaire door closes as it should and the lock operates. The beaded edge moulding around the centre panel has minor fractures and the odd piece has been reglued. The panel is well figured. The interior centre rectangular panel has slightly sprung. The remainder of the interior is in generally good order. The panelled cupboard door beneath are in good condition. The bottom doors are not warped. We have the key and the lock is present. The side panels both have stress fractures but the colour is the same as the front of the cabinet and there is no movement at the split points. The plinth is in good condition all round. There is no evidence of any woodworm.

A Victorian style mahogany secretaire Wellington chest, fitted with nine drawers with wooden knob handles and with plinth base. Height 139 cm, width 53 cm, depth 42 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The chest is structurally sound. There is no evidence of any woodworm. The top has some minor surface scuffs and scratches but no significant issues. The sides are not split but again do have some marks and scratches but no real problems. The Wellington chest action operates as it should. The lock and plate are present but we have no key. All drawer fronts run fairly smoothly and the leather to the secretaire drawer is in extremely good condition. The fitted interior is in good order also. All knob handles are present. There are some scuffs and marks around the plinth base as one would expect but no real significant issues.
