The geometric inlaid top by Anton Seufert, the base, probably associated, The underside stamped twice "A. SEUFERT AUCKLAND N.Z. CABINETMAKER", the underside of the base with illegible remains of a paper label, 60cm diameter, 63cm highNote- Anton Seuffert (1815-1887) is most celebrated for producing specimen wood parquetry tables of this type. Despite having been born in Bohemia, Seuffert re-located to Auckland, New Zealand in 1859, where he established himself as one of the pre-eminent Australasian cabinet makers of the 19th century.In New Zealand Seuffert also became famous for his ingenious incorporation of indigenous timbers. Perhaps the most renowned piece of furniture he executed is a marquetry secretaire, now in the Royal Collection, which is comprised of 30,000 native woods.He changed his name from Seufert to Seuffert in 1869. CR * Table base appears to be associated to the top. the top with small chips to veneers, dents, old stains and some fading, stamped twice to underside, the base platform is formed from four pieces of timber which appear to have been glued.

A George III mahogany breakfront secretaire bookcase1785-1800, probably by GillowsThe ogee moulded cornice above four segmented lancet astragal glazed panelled doors, enclosing seven short and four long adjustable shelves, over a mahogany lined secretaire drawer enclosing a leather inset slide with a central adjustable hinged ratcheted writing surface, with a central open compartment below, flanked by six hinged lidded compartments each inlaid with a central ivory oval tablet engraved with alphabetical lettering, above a pair of re-entrant panelled doors with turned roundel angles, enclosing one shelf, flanked by two conforming doors enclosing three shelves, on a moulded plinth base, approximately: 212cm wide x 62cm deep x 244cm high, (83in wide x 24in deep x 96in high)Footnotes:Inside the secretaire drawer of the offered lot is a distinctive arrangement of neat hinged lidded compartments which are each inlaid with a central ivory oval tablet engraved with letters in sequence, which altogether comprise the entirety of the alphabet. This is often a recurrent element of similar case furniture, but especially kneehole desks, which were made by Gillows during the period, 1785-1810. A George III Mahogany Secretaire Bookcase, the upper part with dentil moulded cornice, four shelves enclosed by a pair of panelled doors, the base with secretaire drawer, and two drawers under, shaped apron and splayed feet, 39ins wide x 19.5ins deep by 80ins highTo the top of the cornice there are some slight edge knocks and general rubbing to all three edges, there is some loss to the dental frieze with some small .25ins square piece of timber missing. On the right-hand door the moulding is loose but present, on the right-hand side at the top there are three areas of circular polish and veneer loss. The right hand side has a small shrinkage split running vertically about 6ins long at the top. The whole is unevenly faded and there is some darker staining, especially on the door panels and at the top of the base. The drawers run free and easy with minimum resistance, key is present, locking mechanisms work. When opening the secretaire drawer the leather lined slope has been heavily distressed, especially in the centre where it folds. There is some darker staining of ink inside the wells. General heavy wear to the base and feet commensurate with age, overall the item is structurally sound, however, there is some movement to the joints, and there appears to be some flight holes present, evidence of historic woodworm
