A 1930's oak bookcase cabinet by Robert John Anderson of Edinburgh, the rectangular top over two open shelves and a pair of cupobards, raised on a plinth base. 111cm by 91cm by 29cm Note: Robert John Anderson studied at the Edinburgh College of Art. After graduating in the 1920s he set up a bespoke furniture making business, before training as a school teacher. His designs reflect an interest in the early Modern Movement and the work of Betty Joel, while interesting features, such as the light box in the secretaire, convey the bespoke nature of his output.
A late George III mahogany, satinwood and boxwood strung secretaire, circa 1810, slight oversailing rectangular form top, the dummy drawer fall front enclosing interior fitted with a writing surface and an arrangement of pigeon holes and drawers with ivory randles, over three long drawers with brass handles and ivory escutcheon, bow apron raised on splay supports. 142cm H x 132cm W x 53.5cm DCondition Report:Good condition with signs of loss to the veneer, missing with brass mouldings on the handles, signs of wear to the writing surface and general and scratches.

An Edwardian walnut secretaire bookcase, moulded cornice, plain frieze, the upper section with arched glazed doors enclosing shelves, the base with a rectangular top, moulded edge, part fitted secretaire drawer, above arched panelled cupboards, plinth base, width 137c,, depth 50cm, height 226cm.
A late Regency mahogany secretaire bookcase of small proportions, the upper section with reeded cornice over two Gothic arch glazed and barred doors enclosing adjustable shelving on a base with fitted secretaire drawer with Bramah lock enclosing a fitted interior with drawers and pigeon holes, over a pair of panelled cupboard doors enclosing three linen shelves, the door with further Bramah lock, raised on turned cup and cover supports, 85.7 cm wide x 208 cm high x 51 cm deep CONDITION REPORTS A couple of the panes of glass are cracked and a couple have been replaced. There is some cracking to the veneer especially noticable on the top left-hand corner of the top section. Area of moulding missing to the left-hand section middle and some damage just around the corner. Some heavy scratches but old. Some damage to the moulding on the right-hand middle section. Ivory finials to some of the handles have broken. Entire item has clearly been well polished over the years. Some heavy surface scraching on the left-hand side to the base. Otherwise general wear and tear conducive with age and use to include knocks, bumps, stains, etc. See images for more details.

A William and Mary kingwood, rosewood, oyster veneered and featherbanded kneehole deskin the manner of Thomas PistorCirca 1690, the hinged foldover top inlaid with segmentally veneered radiating circular, lunette and spandrel tablets, enclosing three drawers, a central open compartment and a hinged secretaire drawer front, above eight short drawers flanking the door to the recess, the door inlaid with a radiating segmentally veneered roundel, enclosing one shelf, on replaced large bun feet, with lozenge inlaid sides, 103cm wide x 64cm deep x 89cm high, (40 1/2in wide x 25in deep x 35in high)Footnotes:A similar oyster veneered 'princeswood' kneehole to the present lot, also circa 1690, is with W.R. Harvey Antiques, Witney, Oxfordshire. Another comparable desk, albeit one with historic provenance to Hotspur of London back in 1945, sold Christie's, London, 25 November 2004, Important English Furniture, lot 11. A further similar model was previously with Rolleston Antiques, Kensington.The radiating oyster veneering on the offered lot relates to that on the aforementioned desks as well as on a kingwood escritoire inscribed: 'Mr Thomas Pistor, Ludgate Hill, London', formerly housed at Buxted Park, East Sussex. This escritoire is visible in a photograph of the drawing room at Buxted Park that formed part of a 1950 article in Country Life magazine. Such oyster veneering is also the dominant characteristic on a kingwood escritoire attributed to Thomas Pistor which sold Bonhams, Knightsbridge, 18 March 2020, lot 355. Interesting by way of comparison is an equally remarkable cabinet on chest, also with W.R. Harvey Antiques. LiteratureC.
