Some chips to the veneer and an area to the front of one of the drawers of potential restoration. Some scratches, marks and tarnishing consistent with age and usage. Structurally sound. Good colours. Oak lined. No obvious signs of previous bun feet, worm or structural alterations. Green felt has likely been replaced. A 19th century birch secretaire chest of drawers, with moulded cornice above a shallow drawer with secretaire drawer beneath and three further drawers to the base flanked by pillars and raised on block feet. Height 122 cm, width 120 cm, depth 55 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The chest is structurally sound and in reasonably good order. The top is flat and not significantly marked or scratched. The moulded edge has some nibbles to the extremities particularly around the front corners. There is a scratch to the frieze and also the top drawer. The interior is in generally very good condition. The fall front is not warped. When fully open it is not horizontal but slopes downwards. There are stress fractures to the pine timber inside left and right of the flap. The sides of the piece are in generally good order. The right-hand side has some slight lifting veneer and stress fractures to the veneers. The chest comes apart in the centre. Whether it was made like this originally or has been cut for transportation we do not know. The faceted columns have minor marks and scuffs. All drawer fronts are in reasonably good order as are the block feet which do have some scuffs and marks around the extremities. The backboards are original. We can see no evidence of any woodworm.

A Regency mahogany secretaire bookcase, with detachable moulded cornice above a pair of glazed panelled doors opening to shelves, the base with a secretaire drawer above cupboard doors and all raised on short turned feet. Height 235 cm, width 122 cm, depth 54 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This is a good quality secretaire bookcase in original unrestored condition. The cornice is in good order all round. The frieze beneath is all present and in generally good order also. The sides of the top are free from any splits. The upper doors close as they should with no warping. The lock and key are present as is the original brass edging strip. The bottom right-hand pane of glass is cracked. The top of the base has some scratches where the top and bottom have been lifted apart. The sides of the base are free from any splits and have only minor scratches and marks. The secretaire drawer front is in generally good order. There is one repair to the cockbeading to the right of the lock plate and numerous nibbles and small marks to the drawer front. The hinges operate as they should. The baize lining is dirty and stained. All interior drawers are present and all have their handles. The doors beneath are not warped. The right-hand drawer has a very small section of moulding missing to the left corner of the panel. There are minor scratches and marks. The feet are all original. The backboards are original. The piece is structurally very sound. What is needed more than anything is a clean and polish.
