Early 19th Century inlaid mahogany secretaire bookcase, the upper section with pointed pediment inlaid with a husk navette between similar shells, over a pair of arch-glazed doors enclosing three adjustable shelves, the lower stage with rectangular top over fall front secretaire drawer enclosing drawers and pigeon holes, in turn above a pair of panelled cupboards enclosing two tray shelves on ogee bracket feet, 109cm x 46.5cm x 221cm high Condition: Upper section has a minor crack to lower right pane of left hand door. 19th Century brass bound hardwood secretaire military or campaign chest, in two sections, the central fall front drawer opening to reveal a partially fitted interior with protective slide, flanked to either side with a box drawer and with three long drawers below, 99cm wide Condition: Right hand side panels have full length vertical cracks. Minor losses where to stages meet to sides. Would benefit from a wax polish otherwise nice colour and condition. No feet. A French Directoire mahogany and gilt brass mounted secretaire abbatant, circa 1815, the grey veined marble inset top within a pierced brass three quarter gallery, above a drawer and the fall front secretaire section, opening to a baize inset and an arrangement of five drawers and an open shelf section, above three further drawers, flanked by a pair of fluted pilasters, on turned tapering feet, 149cm high, 87cm wide, 48cm deep
A George III satinwood and purple heart banded secretaire bookcase, circa 1790, the arched pediment corned by patera painted terminals and surmounted by turned urn finials, the pair of astragal glazed doors opening to adjustable shelves, the fall front secretaire drawer opening to a tooled leather inset writing surface and an arrangement of small drawers and pigeon holes framed by green stained sycamore moulding, above a pair of cupboard doors opening to an adjustable shelf, above square section tapering legs and spade feet, 218cm high, 95cm wide, 48cm deep Provenance: Private Collection, Gloucestershire An example of remarkably similar design but with polychrome decoration is currently with Apter Fredericks (July 2018). The example with Apter Fredericks is attributed to Seddon, Son and Shackleton and is said to relate to a design by Thomas Sheraton for a Secretary and Bookcase, published as pl.XXVIII in The Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer’s Drawing Book, 1793.

A 19th century secretaire abattant, with drawer above the secretaire flap opening to a fitted interior, with three further drawers beneath each with brass drop handles with oval backplates and flanked by caryatid supports and with carved claw and ball feet. Width 96.5 cm, height 147 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Depth of secretaire 38 cm from back to front of shelves and drawers. Depth of writing surface flap from edge to drawers and shelves 57 cm.
