A 20th century French Abbatant - secretaire. The bureau of upright inlaid rosewood and marquetry inlaid construction having a marble top over a single drawer below. Large fall front section top opening to reveal a fitted interior with drawers and cupboards. Inlaid floral decoration throughout with all raised on stub feet. Fall front section A/F. Measures approx. 133cm x 80cm x 40cm. All lots in this auction are part of a private collection of antique furniture and smaller effects. The collection having been amassed over a 30-40 year period by an ex-furniture restore who's eye for a good piece shows through in this auction. An early 18th century walnut kneehole secretaire desk, with quarter veneered top and fall front drawer opening to reveal pigeon holes and drawers, over eight further drawers surrounding a central recessed cupboard, on pad feet, 76cm wide, 48cm deep, 83cm high***CONDITION REPORT***Overall of a good rich toffee brown colour, a little faded to the right side, small raised lip has been applied to the back of the piece, minor dents, knocks and marks to the veneers to the top, main drop front drawer probably a later adaption, with original lock and working key, internal knob handles are bone rather than ivory, drawer above the recess has a concealed catch, side drawers with original locks but no working key, escutcheons quite probably later as are all of the brass loop handles, recess cupboard encloses two fixed shelves, feet look rather small and are thought to be later.PLEASE NOTE:- Prospective buyers are strongly advised to examine personally any goods in which they are interested BEFORE the auction takes place. George III mahogany secretaire bookcase, moulded cornice, lancet glazed doors enclosing three adjustable shelves, the base with a secretaire drawer over three long graduating drawers, brass handles, splayed bracket feet, width 102cm, depth 56cm, height 222cm.Condition report:Some splitting to the veneer of the cornice and there is a length of moulding missing to the left hand side of the cornice. The top left hand pane of the righthand bookcase door is cracked. The top of the secretaire is heavily marked and water stained. The lower left hand panel of the secretaire is split and has some scratches. Splits also to the right-hand side of the drawer fascias between the second and third drawers. The interior of the fitted drawer is relatively tidy, some of the inner drawer pulls are replaced and one is loose. The other drawers are sound but run dry.
