Charles Hour, Paris, a boulle-work mantle clock:, the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a bell, with a sunburst bob to the pendulum, the backplate stamped with the trademark of the maker Charles Hour along with the serial number 693, the cast gilt-brass dial with blue Roman numerals to the porcelain plaques and blued steel hands, the red boulle case with engraved brass inlay to the red tortoiseshell, cast brass mounts, a cherub to the bottom of the glazed door, splayed feet and surmounted by a cherub blowing a horn to the top, height, 46cm. * Biography The firm was founded by Diette in 1852 who worked with Forin, before taking on a partnership with Charles Hour sometime after 1866. The trademark of D.H was changed to C.H in circa 1900 when Charles Hour took sole ownership. They were well-known maker`s of carriage & mantel clocks with an address at 7 Rue Saint-Anastase, Paris.
