RMS Medina, built 1911, torpedoed and sunk in 1917 Interior of a mantle clock, mounted within a frame Deep wooden frame, glazed with perspex, 63x63cmThe Medina was built by Caird & Co of Greenock for the P&O Steam Navigation Company and was used as a Royal Yacht. She took George V and Queen Mary to the Delhi Durbar in 1911. She would have been a sumptiously appointed vessel. She was torpedoed off Start Point, Devon in April 1917 whilst returning from India en route for London. Her cargo contained the personal belongings of Lord and Lady Carmichael with their collection of art and artifacts accumulated during their time in Bengal in India, where Lord Carmichael had served as Governor. When hit, most of the passengers had already alighted in Plymouth. Six engine room crew were killed in the initial explosion, and they were the only casualties.
A French early 20th c Chinoiserie laquered mantle clock. Enamel dial with Roman numerals, striking on a gong. Made in France stamped on movement. Key and pendulum present. H 27cm W 19cm. Condition Report: Left hand front and back feet have been stuck back on. There is a scratch to the front and loss of laquer where the glass opens. There is a dent about 1.5cm long on the right hand top edge. Losses to the gilt work on the right hand main panel.

French - Late 19th century brass cased 8-day mantle clock, with a break arch top surmounted by a reeded urn with handles, brake front case with finials and recessed reeded columns on a stepped plinth raised on scroll feet, brass dial with cartouche roman numerals and brass hands within a glazed dial bezel, twin train rack striking movement, striking the hours and half-hours on a bell.
