An early 20th century French mahogany mantle clock, retailed by A.T. Smith, the shaped case with applied floral border, silvered dial with black Roman numerals, the movement by Samuel Marti, Paris, numbered 4604,5,2, pendulum, key, height 33 cm. Samuel Marti was one of the most prolific French clockmakers of the late 1800s and was known to be working circa 1860 at Le Pays de Montbeliard in Paris. Along with Japy Freres and Roux, they set up a business in 1863 to market their clock movements at Rue Vieille-du-Temple.
