The dial is in generally reasonable order but does have nibbles around the winding apertures. There are also small nibbles around the adjusting peg below the numeral 60. The glazed door closes as it should. The boulle work is on both sides but obviously not the rear of the clock. The boulle work appears to be in generally good order with no losses of any note and no significant lifting. All metalwork is present but is a little tarnished and has lost some of its original finish. The rear of the case has a small loss around the bottom door hinge.

CONDITION REPORT: The movement winds on both trains and seems to be ticking away. We do have the pendulum and a key. The dial is in generally good condition as are the numeral tablets. The numeral 8 has a small loss around the winding aperture. The front door does shut but needs a little pressure. All of the metal fittings are dark and very dirty and have clearly loss much of the original finish. The brasswork to the boulle work appears to be all present and not lifting but again is very black and dirty. The rear of the case is in generally good order.

Lot 1059

A 19th century French bronze figural mantle clock, with two train movement marked to the rear Gasche, the dial with Roman numerals the base black slate and metal mounted. Height 59 cm, width 48 cm, depth 19 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The movement does wind on both trains. The movement strikes when advanced. It appears to be ticking away when the crutch is activated without the pendulum in place. The crutch is a little misshapen and will require some adjustment. The bell is present. The rear door is detached at the hinge. The bronze itself is in generally very good order with no significant issues. The gilding to the base is rubbed in places. The plinth beneath which is black slate has some edge nibbles but no major condition issues. We do not have a winding key but we could easily supply one if necessary.

Lot 993

A fine William IV rosewood cased mantle clock by Viner, 235 Regents Street London, the foliate engraved gilt brass dial with Roman numerals to the fusee movement striking on two gongs, contained in case with gilt bronze folding bale handle, strike silent lever and bevelled glass panels. 24 cm high, with winding handle and case keys for same (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The movement winds on the going train and is currently ticking away. It is fully wound on the strike train and is not striking when manually advanced. The carrying handle is dirty and tarnished and has lost +/- 50% of the original lacquered finish. The face is in good order with only very minor rubbing to the black in the numerals. The glass panels are all in good order. The case is in generally good condition. The top, front and righthand side are in very good order with no significant issues. The lefthand side polish is a little dry in places and there are nibbles and an old repair around the left hand door lock. We have the key, the lock operates. The rear door has a timber loss running from the top lefthand corner three quarters of the way down the door itself from 3 mm down to 0. This is a veneer loss. The rear door lock is present and operates. The side rail into which the lock keeper sits has also had a repair. The short feet are clearly later replacements, we would imagine that this would originally have had brass ball feet. In our opinion the escapement is original and the spring flat. It is a flat rectangular dial, however the diameter of the circular section is 88 mm. We have winding key and the front and rear door keys but they are all different styles and although old we cannot say whether they are original to the locks.
