A 19th Century French Gilt Brass "Four Glass" Mantle Clock, by Japy Freres, Paris, No. 2175, the 4ins cream enamel chapter ring with Arabic numerals, within gilt oval cartouche and with pierced floral ornament to centre, to the eight day two train movement, striking on a gong and with mercury compensated pendulum in case with moulded cornice, slender turned columns to front and inset with bevelled glass panels on turned feet, 13.25ins highExternally the clock is in good overall condition, showing wear commensurate with age and light usage. The gilding is in nice condition ( may have been refreshed at some point). The front door functions correctly, the hinges appear original. There is some light damage to top right hand corner of the glass. The glass to the sides and rear appear to be damage free. The pendulum is 2/3 filled with mercury, the mechanism appears complete although we cannot warrant originality. The dial appears free from cracks to the enamels and the black Arabic numerals are clear and concise, the hands appear original. The clock winds, runs and sets but should be regarded as untested. The key is present. Prospective bidders should study all images closely prior to bidding.
