The Scaglietti 2+2 Coupé was penned by Frank Stephenson under Ken Okuyama at Pininfarina, and it is said that the design, especially the strident side scallops and headlights, were a nod to the coachbuilt 1954 375 MM that film director, Roberto Rossellini, had commissioned for his wife Ingrid Bergman. The newcomer replaced the outgoing 456 but, being physically larger, was a genuine four-seat Grand Tourer. It was Ferrari's second all-aluminium vehicle and comprised of a spaceframe manufactured in conjunction with Alcoa, that was a combination of extrusions and castings to which the body was then welded. The same chassis formed the basis of Ferrari's 599 GTB flagship Grand Tourer. The front, mid-mounted, V12 powerplant was shared with the 575 Superamerica and was not six litres as the name suggests but 5.7, though big enough for a healthy power output of 533bhp and equally impressive performance figures, including a 0-62mph time of 4.2 seconds and a top speed north of the magic 200mph. Guitar legend, Eric Clapton, owned a similar model as did many other Ferrari collectors who recognised its understated styling and powerful performance. This excellent 2005 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti has only covered 43,663Km, that equates to just over 27,300 miles from new. Finished in silver with beige leather interior this 612 was supplied new in Kuwait with aluminium brake calipers, matching beige leather dashboard and Scuderia shields on the front wings. The current owner purchased the car in February 2018. On 3rd June 2020 at 43,328km it was taken to Red Mist Sportscars where it was serviced, new cambelts fitted and had a new alternator. The last work carried out was on the 19th March 2021 when the car was taken to Meridien Modena in Hampshire at 43,382km who fitted a new body ECU, while in the current ownership he has driven less than 400 miles. This Ferrari 612 is supplied with a V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate which expires in August 2024, the complete handbook pack and file containing all the invoices from Ferrari Kuwait.
