James Cauty (British, b. 1956) Dead Dad 1, 2007 Lithograph poster, part of the Operation Magic Kingdom series Unsigned, open edition 70 x 48 cm (27 x 19 in) Over a diverse and productive career Cauty has distinguished himself as a musician, record producer, artist and cultural provocateur through fusions of high art, low art and popularist mediums to spectacular effect. As a teenager Cauty drew the intricate multi-million selling Lord of the Rings poster for British retailer Athena. With Alex Patterson as The Orb and with Bill Drummond as The KLF and the Justified Ancients of Mu Mu, Cauty co-wrote and produced a string of global top ten hits. As The K-Foundation, Cauty and Drummond staged a series of seminal actions including the 1994 K Foundation Art Award for Worst Artist of the Year and the K Foundation Burn A Million Quid. From experimental sonic weapons (the Advanced Acoustic Armaments), to anti-Iraq war postage stamps (Stamps of Mass Destruction), and model making (Riot In A Jam Jar and the Aftermath Dislocation Principle) Cauty’s work combines dissent, cultural subversion and gleeful level of high humour. His roguish and voluble approach has earned him a cult following for work that remains radical, responsive and darkly comical. He produces work that draws on and responds to contemporary culture, sampling it and selling it back as recorded realities. In 2013 Cauty completed The Aftermath Dislocation Principle (ADP), a vast 1:87 scale-model landscape (equivalent to 1 sq mile in miniature) which has been completely looted, destroyed, burnt and is devoid of life apart from 3000 or so model police that attend this apocalyptic aftermath. In 2015 the ADP was installed in Banksy’s Dismaland in Weston Super Mare. This lot is also sold subject to Artists Resale Rights, details of which can be found in our Terms and Conditions.

Lot 485

By 1983, the 2994cc SC was producing 204bhp, only 6 shy of the 1973 Carrera RS!In 1978 Porsche introduced their latest iteration of the 911, the Super Carrera, or SC as it is badged, as a worthy successor to the 911 Carrera. The recipe remained very familiar, utilising the evocative 3.0-litre, flat-six aluminium engine with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection, mated to a five-speed, 915 manual transmission. The move from magnesium to aluminium engines was purely done for reliability reasons. While the SC engine remained at 3-litres, the power output increased with time, starting at 180 bhp from 1978-79, increasing to 188 bhp for 1980 only, then from 1981-1983 a good 204 bhp was on offer, only 6 less than the legendary 2.7RS from 1973.1979 was the year that Porsche had envisioned that their new 928 would be a worthy replacement for the 911, however, demand and sales of the 911 remained so strong that Porsche thankfully decided to inject new life into their core model. In late 1982, they released the first Porsche cabriolet to the public since the 356 of the 1960s, and the first ever cabriolet 911. The concept they displayed at the Frankfurt Motor Show also included a four-wheel drive system, although this never made it to the production line. Despite its premium price tag, over 4,000 cabriolets were sold in its first year, marking the beginning of the 911 Cabriolet range we’ve seen grow over the years. This pretty, final year of production, 1983 SC Cabriolet was bought by our vendor back in 1986, making him just its second owner from new. It's presented in lovely, useable condition having covered a warranted 73,000 miles from new which equates to less than 2,000 miles a year. This is a well optioned car, finished in its original Ruby Red (Rubinrot) Metallic with a burgundy and cream two-tone leatherette interior enhanced by burgundy and cream 'pin-stripe' details. It's fitted with a five-speed 915 manual gearbox and black-centred/chrome rimmed Fuchs alloys which look particularly good on this Cabriolet. Coming from cherished, long-term ownership, this 911 has been lucky enough to live its life in our vendor's garage which might explain why the original bodywork, paintwork, hood, and interior remain in such good order. The history file is good, and any necessary work has been undertaken as soon as required. In 2021 the car was serviced with new fluids and filters, new callipers and a new fuel tank fitted. Late 911 SCs are becoming more and more sought after, with collectors and enthusiasts agreeing that they possess more of the 911 magic and ‘feel’ than the later Carrera 3.2. It's very rare to find such a great, original 911 in just the right condition, perfect for the arrival of summer.   SpecificationMake: PORSCHEModel: 911 SC CABRIOLETYear: 1983Chassis Number: WP0ZZZ91ZDS150997Registration Number: PYM 976YTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 63D4075Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 72979 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Burgundy and CreamClick here for more details and images

Tommy Cooper signed 9x6 illustrated sheet dedicated. Thomas Frederick Cooper (19 March 1921 - 15 April 1984) was a Welsh and English prop comedian and magician. As an entertainer, his appearance was large and lumbering at 6 feet 3 inches (1.91 m), and he habitually wore a red fez when performing. He initially served in the British Army for seven years, before eventually developing his conjuring skills and becoming a member of The Magic Circle. Although he spent time on tour performing his magical act, which specialised on magic tricks that appeared to fail, he rose to international prominence when his career moved into television, with programmes for London Weekend Television and Thames Television.

IVAN FEDOROVICH CHOULTSÉ (RUSSIAN 1877-1932)RAYONS DU MATIN, SNOW SCENEOil on panelSigned and dated 192153 x 65cm (20¾ x 25½ in.)Provenance:Burlington Paintings, LondonIvan Fedorovich Choultsé was born in Saint Petersburg into a family of German origin (Schultze) who had lived in Russia since the seventeenth century. Originally an electrical engineer until the age of thirty, he showed his first essays to the famous painter and member of the Russian Academy of Fine Arts, Constantin Jakovlevich Kryzhitsky (1858-1911), who then invited Choultsé to study art. In 1910 they travelled to Spitzbergen together, where Choultsé was captured by the Arctic landscapes. By 1916 he had already become a renown artist, with Carl Fabergé and members of the Tsar family acquiring his works. During the Revolutionary Years Choultsé was forced to leave Russia and travelled across Europe, painting views of Southern France, Northern Italy and particularly of the Swiss Alps. These often set the scene for his most sought after winter landscapes, which have an almost magic realist quality due to his specific handling of light. Nowadays, his radiant depictions of water and snow are particularly collected in the United States and Canada (Hillwood Museum in Washington D.C., Indianapolis Museum of Art, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts), ever since his works were exhibited in New York in the early 1930's. Condition Report: The canvas appears cleaned and the colours are fresh. UV light reveals very minor scattered retouching. The surface impasto also fluoresces under UV, but we believe this is the artist's technique rather than signs of retouching. One small area of paint loss measuring approx. 1 cm lower left. Bank of Elfland, a note for £100 advertising the performances of Wiljalba Frikell, often known as Professor Frickell, 11 May 1868, serial number W/F 74899, signature of Wiljalba Frikell, bearing more than a passing resemblance to a real Bank of England £100, including the wording and vignette, minor edge damage, overall very fine and scarce Outing unlisted £120-£160 --- Wiljalba Frikell (1816-1903) was a remarkable man, and a pioneer of the modern magic show. He is believed to have been the first magician to perform in evening dress, as opposed to the flowing robes hitherto used by all. He lost all his equipment in a fire early in his career and was accordingly forced to improvise a stage show using nothing but his hands, a few small objects and slight of hand. This type of show became his trademark and inspired a lot of modern magic. This note may relate to performance in Greenock as part of his UK tour in 1868.
