Prototype Vic Fair artwork for the 1981 fantasy-adventure "Dragonslayer". Fair completed several designs for the poster but this piece shows a close resemblance to the finished Quad. The design presents a series of exciting images and some fabulous artwork on the left side of a figure superimposed over the background (Fair was fond of using juxtaposition in his designs). Another Vic Fair design which was illustrated by Brian Bysouth.Artist: Vic FairDimensions: Artwork 17" x 31" (43 x 79 cm), 25" x 35" (64 x 89 cm) overallCondition: ExcellentArtwork applied to layout paper, affixed to board, the media including pen, watercolour and magic marker. Please note this lot is sold without copyright, reproduction rights, licensing agreements or any other type of legal release.VAT Status: M
Finished Vic Fair prototype artwork for the 1971 British film "Gumshoe", this partly inspired by the American genre of private investigator movies (the tag-line referencing Humphrey Bogart). Fair adopts a 1930's retro design and adds a photographic image of the hero (Albert Finney) into the artwork. As comparison with the printed Quad shows, Fair slightly amended the photo but otherwise the Quad is a close match for this prototype.Artist: Vic FairDimensions: 20" x 27 1/2" (51 x 70 cm)Condition: ExcellentArtwork applied to board with an added black paper surround, the media being a mix of watercolour, pencil, magic marker and photographic.Quad poster image supplied for reference & NOT included in the sale. Please note this lot is sold without copyright, reproduction rights, licensing agreements or any other type of legal release.VAT Status: M
Prototype Vic Fair artwork for the sci-fi film "Short Circuit" (1986). The finished Quad poster utilised the John Alvin artwork for the American poster campaign so it appears as if Fair was asked to experiment but that ultimately the Alvin design was preferred. It is a moot point as to which design has more impact.Artist: Vic FairDimensions: 22" x 25 1/2" (56 x 65 cm) overallCondition: ExcellentArtwork on layout paper affixed to card with a hand-written acetate overlay, the media being a mix of watercolour, ink and magic marker. Please note this lot is sold without copyright, reproduction rights, licensing agreements or any other type of legal release.VAT Status: M
Chantrell's original prototype artwork for the 1980 re-release Quad for the George A Romero zombie film, "Night Of The Living Dead". As comparison with the finished Quad shows, Chantrell captured the essence of the film poster with this conceptual design. Although most artists did a little design work alongside their illustration, Chantrell was one of the few who was equally at home with both tasks. In some cases Chantrell would submit two-three prototypes but it is believed that in this case the artist "nailed" his brief in one. Chantrell was paid £287.50 for this concept art and the finished art together. NB. The artwork is sold with an original folded Quad of "Night Of The Living Dead" (1980).Artist: Tom ChantrellDimensions: Artwork 15" x 19" (38 x 48 cm), 21" x 25" (54 x 64 cm) overallCondition: ExcellentArtwork mounted but otherwise unrestored, the original artwork on layout paper, mostly being pen outline and magic marker. Quad poster folded, unrestored and with heavy foldline wear. This item comes from the official Chantrell archive and written provenance to this effect will be provided. Please note this lot is sold without copyright, reproduction rights, licensing agreements or any other type of legal release.VAT Status: M
