CHAPENDER MARTIN: (1879-1905) English Magician whose initials were the inspiration behind the name of the Magic Circle in 1905. Extremely rare A.L.S., Martin Chapender, two pages, 4to, London, 12th January 1905, to Mr. Braby, on the printed stationery of the Egyptian Hall advertising Chapender’s season, Christmas 1904. Chapender discusses some travel arrangements involving a trip to Brighton, remarking ’You see it is absolutely imperative that I should go there. If fine could we run down on the motor? This would do fine if it is not troubling you too much & I would like it as I have a fur coat & can easily keep warm’. The magician further informs his correspondent ’I am cutting the Savage Club & going next week instead & I have half a mind not to go to the Press as I was at their last smoker’ and adds ’I hope you will not think me cheeky in asking to run to Brighton on the motor & please don’t hesitate to say no if inconvenient & I can go by train’. Autographs of Chapender are extremely rare in any form as a result of his early death at the age of 26, less than a month after the present letter was written. Some light overall foxing and a number of tears at the edges of the folds, causing a few small areas of paper loss and slightly affecting a few words of text but not the signature. About G Chapender performed at the Egyptian Hall, as illustrated by the present letter, for the last Christmas season before the building was demolished. Chapender had taken over the entire management of the Egyptian Hall after Maskelyne left to run his ‘New Home of Mystery‘.

Henry Zvi Zilberstein (1929-2009) portfolio with 8 signed lithographs, Judaica. The cover is designed as an English newspaper with the headline - Yiddishkite- Zvi Zilberstein. The portfolio includes the following lithographs: 1. The Kotel 2. Conversation 3. The Old Couple 4. The Letter 5. In The Ghetto 6. Bread and Water 7. Jewish Schooling 8. Torah Writing Each lithograph measures: 16in x 11.4in / 40.6cm. x 28.95cm. Each lithograph is signed and dated in the plate and hand signed and numbered by the artist. Henry Zilberstein. Born on 1929 in Paris. On 1943 he Joined the "Premiere armee francais" and participated in many battles. On 1947 he came to Israel and settled down in Kibbutz Chulata. He worked there as a fisherman, a truck driver and an architect but later (1995) abandoned all of those professions to commit to his painting. "Zvi (Henry) Zilberstein lived 70 years following the modernist's way of life, when one day he left the architect sketching desk for something he wasn't familiar with himself. He was guided more by vague intuition then by nostalgia, he was always too connected with his own culture and time. And still, there was one thing that inspired him: a black and white album entitled "Disappearing world". Its author, Roman Wishniak, a brilliant photographer, had spent the 20s and 30s in eastern Europe, capturing the humble and yet very rich lives of the Jewish communities on film. Today, Zilberstein is reliving the magic of those photos with delicate colors and a touch of humor, inspired by his admiration to the great American cartoonist, Norman Rockwell." Gabriel Roth.
- Final evolution of the iconic DS with luxurious 'Pallas' trim - LHD, Green cloth interior in 'original and excellent condition' - Fuel-injected 2347cc engine and semi-automatic transmission Further Info: CitroÙn's DS still looks futuristic, 60 years on from its launch. The self-levelling hydropneumatic suspension was also way ahead of its time, delivering a 'magic carpet' ride that many manufacturers would be grateful for even now. The newcomer was initially powered by an updated 1911cc version of the OHV four-cylinder unit previously found in the Traction Avant. This was enhanced and enlarged in three stages over the years, leaving the final iteration at 2347cc. The gearbox was mounted ahead of the engine, while braking was by inboard-mounted discs at the front and drums at the rear. Some 1.5 million D Series CitroÙns were produced and the model immortalised in such films as The Day of the Jackal. The truly splendid-looking 2347cc-engined Pallas (luxury) on offer was manufactured in 1973 and is finished in a most attractive shade of Metallic Green. Its matching Green cloth interior trim is described by the vendor as 'excellent and all original' and the car would surely be a welcome addition to any collection.
