ENGLISH SCHOOL (EARLY 20TH CENTURY) AND LATER THE JAMES PERKINS STUDIOPARADISE LANDSCAPE, A UNICORN AMONG OTHER ANIMALS IN A WOODED LANDSCAPE, WITH LATER AYNHOE COAT OF ARMS Oil on canvas128 x 178cm (50¼ x 70 in.)James Perkins' vision for this piece was to portray the magic of Aynhoe in its 18th century arcadian landscape. In this fantasy woodland scene, reminiscent of works by Hondercoeter and Casteels, a unicorn and a white stag, frolic amongst an idealised vision of 18th century rural life. Where would you find a wolves and foxes living in harmony with sheep and rabbits? All of these animals are at the centre of Aynhoe's iconography. Once seen out in the parkland, they are now frozen in time in the magical interiors throughout the house. Condition Report: The canvas is thought to be unlined. Surface cracking and abrasions visible to the edges. There is a layer of uneven and discoloured varnish. Unexamined under UV light. We believe the work was made in the early 20th century and later added to by the James Perkin's studio. We do not know who the original artist wasAll of the animals and the coat of arms have been added by the James Perkins' restorer to meet his requirements and visionCondition Report Disclaimer
λ DERRICK SANTINI (BRITISH B.1965) FOOL FOR LOVE, 2012Lenticular print Edition 3/3 89 x 124cm (35 x 48¾ in.)Born in Scarborough in 1965, photographer Derrick Santini is now based in London and New York. His photographs have appeared in magazines such as i-D, Vogue, Flaunt and Nylon and a book of his portraits was published in 2004. Santini began experimenting with the lenticular process in about 2008 and subsequently had two highly successful London gallery shows incorporating lenticular prints and lightboxes. The lenticular process involves photographing a series of stills which are then layered over each other and printed using a special process. The images are then placed under a thin ribbed plastic sheet which acts as a lens producing an animation triggered by the viewer moving in front of it. Whilst the artist grew up loving the still photographic image, the lenticular offers something more kinetic as well as blurring the line between fantasy and reality. The interactive nature of it also appeals to Santini, being dependent on the viewer to create its magic at the same time as implicating them into the image itself. Condition Report: No visible damages or restoration.Condition Report Disclaimer
