No manufacturers label so most likely amateur produced for lecture purposes. The lid of the box contains a hand written list with a description of slides 1 to 39. A small quantity of rock samples are included in the box. Interesting historical subject matter; images of men at work, china clay machinery and buildings, map etc.Condition report: NOTE: The index in the lid seems not to relate to the slides.

Magician.- Bland (Joseph, magician and magic dealer, ?d. 1898) Autograph Letter signed to W. Mellor, 3pp., 8vo, Magical Conjuring Repository, 478 New Oxford Street, London, 21st April 1864, "I enclose on the other side the explanation of the saucepan trick. I have some very beautiful tricks. Quite new. I shall not place them in my list, only show them to my customers, but if you think you would like to have the explanation of one or two, I will be most happy to send them to you - I know you would be delighted with them!", 2 small holes at head, folds, slightly foxed.⁂ Bland started as a dealer around 1855 and had a number of shops from which he sold magical apparatus. In 1863 he moved into the shop on Oxford Street in London. He allowed many of this apparatuses to be described by Professor Hoffmann's books Modern Magic and More Magic.

A fantastic piece of Chinese Art, a large hand-painted scroll depicting a young lady in front of an old man holding the "peach of immortality". In China, peach is a symbol of immortality and a wish for longevity. It is regarded as a "magic" fruit and offered as a birthday present to the elders. Chinese people also believed that peaches had the function of bringing auspiciousness and warding off evil. Very good condition.Size:2000mmx780mm; Provenance: London Art Gallery, previously in an old French collection, acquired in the 1960s.

Original vintage advertising poster for a Spanish magic show titled "Profesor Alba - El hombre que juega con la muerte", translated as "Professor Alba - The man who plays with death." The poster features a magician in a tuxedo next to skeleton linking arms with the man while holding a scythe in one hand and an hourglass in the other. Profesor Alba (Paulo Alba) was a magician, hypnotist and psychic entertainer, he also featured a female performer mentalist named Yu-Li-San in his shows. Condition: Good condition, tear at the top, minor paper loss. Country of printing: Spain, designer: Ramon, size (cm): 200x68, year of printing: 1959.

Original vintage advertising poster for an exhibition of landscapes loaned from the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, held at the art dealers Hazlitt, Gooden & Fox at 38 Bury Street, London. The painting featured, "The Magic Apple Tree" c.1830, is a famous work by British artist Samuel Palmer (1805-1881). This watercolour belongs to Palmer’s so-called ‘Visionary’ period, c.1826-32, when he was painting some of his most intense and original landscapes inspired by the landscape of Shoreham in Kent. Six wooly sheep rest against a background of a densley laden apple tree, thickly wooded hills and golden fields of ripe corn. Condition: Good condition, creasing..
