Tommy Cooper (1921 1984) English prop comedian and magician. As an entertainer, his appearance was large and lumbering at 6 feet 4 inches, and he habitually wore a red fez when performing, the prop later being described as "an icon of 20thcentury comedy. He served in the British Army for seven years, part of the time with Montgomery's Desert Rats in Egypt before eventually developing his conjuring skills and becoming a member of The Magic Circle. Although he spent time on tour performing his magical act, which specialised in magic tricks that appeared to "fail", he rose to international prominence when his career moved into television, with programs for London Weekend Television and Thames Television. A nicely signed black and white photograph showing Tommy Cooper with a group of contestants at the 1962 Miss United Kingdom competition, approximately 8.5 inches x 6.5 inches. Good condition. A group of magic lantern slides (some af), a carved shell with inscription 'Preludio', a decorative wooden panel featuring female bust, a black Bakelite telephone and a studio pottery vase by Philip Joley. Additional InformationSome of the lantern slides cracked, heavy general wear to these. Further wear throughout. Wooden panel with several pronounced gouges/scratches. The telephone not tested, no guarantee of working order. Various subject matters, including humerous examples, no examples have scenes with foreign countries on. Postage for this item would be a medium box. There are approx 152 pieces, although there is space remaining in the box.
