A CULTURED PEARL AND DIAMOND 'LE ROI GRENOUILLE' RING, BY JULIE GENET Composed of a large central Tahitian cultured pearl of grey tint measuring approximately 16.5mm, within multiple diamond-set claws modelled as stylised frog legs, mounted in 18K gold, signed JGJ, maker's mark, French assay mark, within maker's pouch and case, ring size L½ This ring has been inspired by the German fairy-tale The Frog Prince written by the Grimm brothers. Julie Genet For Julie Genet, medieval architecture with its impenetrable castellated walls inhabited by knights' whose tales and thwarted love stories, have been a constant fascination. This period is a source of inspiration for the design of certain pieces, with Julie using its symbols and legends as the foundations of her craft. It is, however, a fictional Middle Age, where magic exists and heroes of mythology, legends, literature and cinema intermingle. It is a world where women are strong and muses have superpowers. Each of the collections is conceived as a kingdom populated by jewel characters. Constellation, fabulous galaxy studded with multi-coloured meteorites, flaming golden stars, revolves around Vegas, Tatooine's twin planet. Here, the codes of the game world - poker, backgammon, checkers, chess - have breathed life into the escaped kings and queens of the Legends kingdom where King Frog, Ulysses, Aragorn and Bluebeard are waging a merciless war for the hand of the Lady of the Lake. Each of Julie's pieces of jewellery is a wonderful creature from this fantastic world, making them unique, precious and playful pieces. Despite her initial career as a dental surgeon, she always had an interest in creating jewellery. She took advantage of dental prosthesis techniques, similar to that of classic jewellery, to create her models. She graduated from the Gemological Association of Great Britain in 2011, with a collection of pieces, with a strong sense of style and character based around her fantastical universe. She built up a small but loyal clientele and now devotes herself full time to the creation of precious jewellery. In 2016, in collaboration with her sister Caroline, she launched the eponymous brand Julie Genet Joaillerie.

Lot 153

A SAPPHIRE AND DIAMOND 'KANAWAGA' RING, BY JULIE GENET Of scalloped design, set throughout with brilliant-cut diamonds and a blue gradation of circular-cut sapphires representing a wave from Kanawaga, mounted in 18K gold, diamonds 1.32ct total, sapphires 3.30cts total, signed JGJ, maker's mark, French assay mark, with maker's pouch and case, ring size N½ By using different shades of blue and varying sizes of sapphire and white diamonds, Julie Genet tried to represent a wave and the irregular shape of its foam. This ring was named after Hokusai's woodblock print Kanagawa. Julie Genet For Julie Genet, medieval architecture with its impenetrable castellated walls inhabited by knights' whose tales and thwarted love stories, have been a constant fascination. Lot 154

A COLOURED SAPPHIRE AND GARNET 'ME' RING, BY JULIE GENET Of abstract design set with a continuous line of circular-cut pink and green sapphires and rhodolite garnets, mounted in 18K gold, signed JGJ, with maker's mark, French assay mark, with maker's pouch and case, ring size N½ This ring is the 3D transposition of Julie Genet's initials JG. It can be worn in four different ways and the three coloured gemstones gives the wearer the impression of having multiple rings in one. For Julie Genet, medieval architecture with its impenetrable castellated walls inhabited by knights' whose tales and thwarted love stories, have been a constant fascination. This period is a source of inspiration for the design of certain pieces, with Julie using its symbols and legends as the foundations of her craft. [APPIER-HANZELET, Jan (1596-1647), but traditionally attributed to Jean LEURECHON (1591-1670)]. Recreations Mathématiques Composées de Plusieurs Problèmes Plaisans & Facetieux d' Arithmetique, Geometrie, Astrologie, Optique, Perspective, Mechanique, Chymie, & d' autres Rares & Curieux Secrets. Rouen: Charles Osmont, 1634. 3 parts in one volume, 8vo (162 x 95mm). Woodcut illustrations and diagrams (small hole at inner margin of title, not affecting letters, some faint waterstaining to the lower outer corner). Early 20th-century crushed morocco, the spine gilt in compartments, gilt edges. Provenance: Kenney Collection (label); attributed author's name in pencil on front pastedown. First published in 1624 (only 3 extant copies of this edition are known), this is one of the earliest editions of the first book to posit the idea of recreational mathematics. "This work is pivotal in the history of science and mathematics. It brings together two sixteenth-century traditions, mercantile arithmetic and natural magic, and creates two new ones: recreational mathematics and popular science ... The book was influential on early seventeenth-century natural philosophers such as Descartes, Mersenne and Leibniz" (A. Heeffer, Récréations Mathématiques (1624): A Study on its Authorship, Sources and Influence (Ghent, 2006)). cf. Brunet IV, 35: "Petit volume peu commun ..." (citing a 1629 edition, attributing the work to Leurechon, listed under "Recreation ..."; Tomash & Williams, The Erwin Tomash Library on the History of Computing E18; T. H.
