* ALEXANDER GOUDIE RP RGI (SCOTTISH 1933 - 2004), THROUGH AN OPEN WINDOW gouache on paper, signed 64cm x 52cm Mounted, framed and under glass. Note: The view is the rear of Villa Ker Jane, the home of Goudie's parents-in-law in the village of Loctudy, Brittany. Recurring visits to Brittany became not just a holiday break from the city life of Glasgow, but a place of experiment for his painting, leading to new developments in an increasingly individual style. The sources of Gauguin's powerful symbolism; calvaries, the carved wooden figures of the pieta, rosaries and graveyard guardians, had a power which belied their simple imagery and rough execution. This simplicity - a reduction of form to its basic but unmistakably symbolic shape - gave traditional Breton art its power and Goudie was deeply affected by it. In the first Brittany paintings colour was not one of Goudie's prime concerns, but over the years he moved away from a primarily tonal definition of the world around him to one where colour and pattern take a dominant role. In Cadell and van Dongen, both of whom simplified their approach to figurative painting by the introduction of pure colour, he found guidance. The brilliant light of Loctudy encouraged Goudie to make changes to his palette. The flat landscape, with expanses of water reflecting the powerful skies swept in from the Atlantic, were not suitable subjects for the tonal approach to painting which he brought with him from Scotland. Sir Timothy Clifford, former Director of the National Galleries of Scotland, said: ''At his best, Goudie could draw better than any of his rivals in Scotland. There was magic and vision in his art and, I expect, history will be kind to him.''. We are grateful to Lachlan Goudie, artist, writer, broadcaster and the leading authority on the work of his father, for identifying this painting as: It’s painted in Loctudy in Brittany, the home of my grandparents and the view is of the back of their house painted from a neighbouring outbuilding. I would date it to the late 1970’s.

THE JIMMY JOHNSTONE FABERGE EGG BY SARAH FABERGE, number 18 of a limited edition of 19. The lion is presented as a finial in sterling silver and 24 carat gold-symbol of Celtic`s triumph in winning the European Cup in Lisbon in 1967. The lion presides over the badges of Celtic`s winners medals-the European Cup medal to the front; to the reverse the Scottish League Championship medal; and flanking them, to the left the Scottish Football Association Cup and to the right the Scottish Football League Cup Medals. Struck in the original dies, gilded and hand-enamelled, the sterling medals intersperse a reminder of Jimmy Johnstone`s origins with the coal pithead-four winding-shaft supports, fashioned in silver and black gold. The top of the Egg itself is hand engine-turned on sterling silver and precious rhodium. The lower half of the creation is adorned with Celtic Football Club`s badge proclaiming its 1888 origin and produced here with specific authority from the Club. The badge is counterbalanced by the motif from `The Lord of the Wing` motion picture, which celebrates Jimmy Johnstone`s career and achievement. To the sides, seven magic Celtic rings, also in hand-enamelled silver. The bezel is an echo of the `Jungle`, whose corrugated roof it commemorates. Open the Egg and view the surprise. On a field of gold and hallmarked silver, Jimmy Johnstone himself, poised aslant as he presses forward: Celtic`s legendary player, triumphantly modelled in silver and fine gold, at his feet a sterling silver and black gold diamond-studded football. Jimmy`s signature authenticates the creation. Sarah Faberge places her Jimmy Johnstone Egg on a foot with seven steps in final witness of Jinky`s number and of the `Jungle` terraces from which he would have happily stood watching his heroes had it not been for his own amazing God-given talents. Sarah adds her signature beneath, engraved and attesting the edition issue. Limited edition 19 for the World Market. This is number 18, 17.5cm high, contained in a leather display case
JOHN BONNAR OF CELTIC F.C . - HIS CLUB BLAZER, given to the player two weeks after joining Celtic in 1948, along with a collection of related photographs, dinner menus and ephemera Provenance: This is offered for sale on behalf of the player's son. Note: Bonnar signed for Celtic from Arbroath on 9 August 1948 and was soon heralded as "Celtic's best since John Thomson". Although small, Bonnar was agile enough to make over a century of league appearances for Celtic, and almost 200 appearances altogether. Bonnar was not particularly tall for a goalkeeper but was able to produce moments of magic. He was Celtic's goalkeeper and hero in the 1953 Coronation Cup final against Hibs, where he kept their Famous Five forward line at bay, it is considered to be one of the best performances ever by a Celtic goalkeeper. Bonnar achieved 49 clean sheets in his 180 competitive appearances for Celtic.
