ATTRIBUTED TO SIR KYFFIN WILLIAMS RA watercolour - landscape, believed Snowdonia and with pencil drawing verso of a figure in a stonework religious building ruin, signed with initials 'KW', circa 1930s / 40s, 30 x 37cms Provenance: purchased by vendor with other pictures in one lot, at a local country auction in Suffolk. Auctioneer's Note: the 'KW' initials are signed with a line underneath which would be unusual and possibly unrecorded, however there are obvious similarities in the style and palette to work that has come on the market for the artist from the 1930s / 1940s and in particular an example which sold with Gorringes (Lot 668 June 26th 2018) and another example from 1938 sold with Bonhams (July 5th 2011). It is necessary to point out that both these other watercolours were signed John Williams. This period of Kyffin Williams' work does not come on to the market frequently so it is conceivable that he initialled differently on an occasion, or that this painting was initialled later by an owner. However it must be emphasised that we are uncertain whether the picture is by Sir Kyffin Williams or not and we do not make any guarantee as to the authenticity of this lot.
