Annie has for many years taught art classes in Surrey, including the University of Surrey, where her work is held in the University’s prestigious art collection. I see my work as a contemporary interpretation of the tradition of Romantic landscape painting. It is inspired by an emotional response to the natural world, investigating the often transient qualities of time, space, memories or emotions with expressive semi-abstract painting. My painting process evolves through transforming and abstracting the subject. Layers of transparent paint are applied to the surface to create an atmospheric quality that suggest an unveiling or discovery of the poetic mystery of the landscape. www.annieboisseau.com. I was very happy to be involved in the last TLC Art Auction and to learn about the amazing work the charity does in developing kidney transplant services in countries where it is needed most. It's a great feeling to be a small part of something that makes such a big difference simply by donating an artwork!.When I heard that this year's Art Auction was going to be the theme of a Deck of cards, I thought ' brilliant ' , Christmas presents sorted!.I jumped in quite quickly with wanting to paint the Ace of spades. I didn't want to do something too obvious, so I decided to paint a brooding atmospheric landscape which could be seen through the framework of the Ace of spades. This offers a choice of either retaining the whole 'Ace' or removing the mount to reveal the full landscape! Either way, I hope it goes towards helping this ace charity! Please note that final invoices will include buyers' premium at 27% (inclusive of VAT) added to the hammer price. Ewbank's are waiving all vendor commission for the charity. Transforming the four hearts into insect wings was a delight for me and I always enjoy painting twirls and curls too!Why did you want to take part in this fundraising initiativeIt's a way of giving back through my artwork which is important to me.What inspiration did you draw on to create your designI paint in watercolour using tiny brushes or a dip pen with watercolour - possibly a technique many people use but I only devised that a few years back and it's proved to be enormously helpful in my illustrations. The natural world is always my first port of call when thinking up new ideas. What is it about the charity Transplant Links that made you want to support themThe fact that they have such a positive effect on so many lives is truly inspiringPlease note that final invoices will include buyers' premium at 27% (inclusive of VAT) added to the hammer price. El Glaoui regards his work as a “living mirror of the past and the traditions which are still the essence of the Moroccan spirit. My love of my country has been the defining spirit of my painting. I have recorded our ancestral roots, the flowers in the Valley of the Kasbah and the red Cherifian palaces, the royal corteges with their long lines of white burnouses and the mounted cavalry and their horses" Today El Glaoui's work is highly prized, but he owes his career to Sir Winston Churchill, who discovered him in 1943, and talked his reluctant parents into sending him to art school.
