Design: Diversity Artist: Rachel Stevens About the artist Rachel has always loved drawing and painting and spent four years at Art college in Manchester and Kingston-on-Thames. Working as an illustrator, she now sells her paintings directly to the public via market stalls, with a focus on personalised paintings for all ages. She also runs art and craft sessions with children, and is passionate about the therapeutic quality of all creativity. About the design The inspiration for this bus came from researching the history of Croydon, and seeing the dramatic differences in architecture, which sit alongside each other in this busy place... hence the title 'Diversity'. Rachel works mainly in line and watercolour, and wanted to produce that effect, but in durable acrylics. Location: Dingwall Road Dimensions: Length- 2.4m Width 0.5m Height- 0.95m

Attributed to Friedrich Rauscher (German, 1754-1808) View of the Villa of Maecenas and the Tivoli Falls with sportsmen and hounds in the foreground, and cattle being herded in the distance watercolour 37 x 53cm (14 x 21in) Provenance: Private Collection, UK. At the centre, at the brow of the hill, is the Villa di Mecenate or Tempio di Ercole Vincitore. To the right, lower down the slope is the small rounded Temple of the Dea Tussis. The present painting would appear to be before 1835 when Pope Gregory XVI added the Villa Gregoriana, a villa complex pivoting around the Aniene's falls. The "Great Waterfall" was created through a tunnel in the Monte Catillo, to give an outlet to the waters of the Aniene sufficient to preserve the city from inundations like the devastating flood of 1826. N. Pocock (1740 -1821), a gilded framed Watercolour painting on card very ably portraying the world renowned Fingal's cave on the Island of Staffa in the Hebrides, the landmark is shown with two figures on the rocky shore as a long boat approaches rowed by four oarsmen while the coxswain and a standing figure with a chart in his hand point to the approach to the cave, signed and dated 1792 to lower left. Some foxing and discolouration commensurate with the age, the image 10 1/8'' x 14 3/16'' approx. in glazed frame, 12 1/8'' x 16 1/8'' approx. overall. With the painting, formerly having been attached to the rear, is an old hand-written note reading ''FINGAL'S CAVE This picture, painted by Nicholas Pocock in 1793 is of Fingal's Cave (named after warrior hero of the Gaels of the second and third centuries AD). It is on the Island of Staffa, one of the Inner Hebrides. It is of the rock structure similar to that of the Giant's Causeway and as like giant organ pipes of a Cathedral probably due to the great upheaval of ancient lava. Because of the sound made, at times by the wind in the caves, it's Gaelic name is 'Cave of Music'. Nicholas Pocock 1741 - 1821 was the son of a Bristol Merchant. In his twenties he was master of two ships ''Lloyd'' in 1767 and later ''Minerva'' owned by Richard Champion, who later owned a china factory. A log of Cpt. Pocock's voyage to Jamaica in 1776 is now owned by Richard Walton of Ware Priory. He left the sea at 40 years and painted Fingal's Cave at the age of 50 years.'' Pocock was renowned for the charming drawings featured in the journals of his voyages, each day brought to life by an illustration of the most memorable incident. Interestingly, in the late 1700s, it is noted that he was resident at No. 12 Great George, Westminster, this being the modern day address of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
