ATTRIBUTED TO PAUL SANDBY RA (1725-1809) "The Old Mill, New River Head, Islington", rural scene with figures, watercolour, unsigned, inscribed on typed label verso "Sandby, Paul, R.A. (1725-1809) The Old Mill, New River Head, Islington. Watercolour 18½ inches x 12½ inches. Collection - H.Tolson, exhibited - Bristol 1947, No. 67.", and bears stencil mark "161PD", and chalk date "22 Feb '66" CONDITION REPORTS Has a large tear running down the centre of the painting which has been restored. Discolouration and areas of dirt throughout. There is a large rip running all the way down the painting which has been restored and further rips around the edges, which have also all been restored. There are also several rips to the bottom of the image which have been repaired. Appears to be a scratch/dent to the painting in the bottom right hand corner and some rubbing along the top edge. General wear and tear conducive with age and use. The mount is fading and discoloured in areas. the frame has light wear and the over all piece has wear and tear conducive with age and use - see images for further details. Image size 32 cm x 47 cm

Liu Changchao The Master of the 'Not Bothersome Studio' (Chinese, 1907-1977) Study of Pink Peonies and Bamboo sigend upper left - The seal reads "Pu fan zhai" (the Not Bothersome Studio); a self-satirical studio soubriquet very much in the Chinese tradition. watercolour, in a faux bamboo frame 34 x 49cm (13 x 19in) The watercolour is inscribed "Yihai chun chu bufanzhai zhuren hua" whcih translates as "In the yihai year, early spring, painted by the Master of the 'Not Bothersome Studio'". The date on the painting 'early spring in the yihai year, is from the traditional sexagenary or sixty year cycle, and can only be 1959, to fit in with the artist's dates There is a considerable amoutn of information on the artist in Chinese on Baidu, the Chinese equivalent to Google. Liu Changchao was the head of a painting family, with a son, a daughter-in-law (Yan Yulian) and a grandson all involved in painting.
