§ Edward Piper (British, 1938-1990) St Ives signed lower left "St Ives 9 IV 83 Edward Piper" watercolour 45 x 60cm (18 x 23in) Other Notes: Edward Piper was the eldest son of the artist John Piper and his wife Myfanwy. He was educated at Lancing College, Sussex, and later studied under Howard Hodgkin at the Bath Academy of Art in Corsham, and subsequently at the Slade School in London. Edward Piper produced photographs for the Shell County Guides and also undertook graphic design commissions. However, his real passion was figurative art, painting female nudes in particular, and painting landscapes in Corsica, France, Italy, Spain and Cornwall. His work is in the Tate. Condition is fine.
§ John Northcote Nash, CBE, RA (British, 1893-1977) Waves and Rocks signed lower left "John Nash" watercolour 25 x 32cm (10 x 12in) Exhibited: John Nash Exhibition, 1976, No. 17, Sketch for painting, The Victor Batte-Laye Trust, The Minories, Colchester, Essex (old exhibition label refers). Squared up. Condition is fine.
§ Mary Hoad (British, 1908-1968) Chicken farm signed lower right "Mary Hoad" oil on board 37 x 57cm (14 x 22in) Other Notes: Mary Hoad wrote of this painting: "I saw this chicken farm in Dorsetshire on a Sunday morning in September 1959 and made a watercolour sketch on the spot". Mary Hoad was born at Beckenham in Kent, and studied at Chelsea School of Art. In 1948 she became County Art Organiser for Hertfordshire Education Authority. She served with Nan Youngman and Herbert Read on the editorial board for "Athene", the journal of the Society for Education in Art which organised the Pictures for Schools exhibitions - the first of which was held at the Victoria and Albert Museum in 1947. Mary Hoad went on to become Principal of St Albans School of Art from 1957 until 1967, where she promoted courses in art therapy.
A group of three Chinese paintings on rice paper, 19th century, each painted with boats on water, 18cm. by 31cm., framed and glazed; also a Chinese watercolour painting of tradesmen, 23cm. by 23cm., framed and glazed; and a Japanese woodblock print of a bijin and ships, 22cm. by 24cm., framed and glazed.
Attributed to William McTaggart R.S.A., R.S.W. (Scottish 1835-1910), A Beached Fishing Boat, a Steam Boat in the Distance, signed and dated "W. McTaggart 1868", a watercolour sketch, stamped verso "From The George Gallery, 55 George Street, Edinburgh", framed. 10cm by 17cm. Note: McTaggart was born on the Mull of Kintyre and is known to have returned frequently to that part of the world from his studio in Glasgow and later Edinburgh. See Collection of National Galleries of Scotland, Accession no. D4523, William McTaggart "A Sketch at Tarbert Argyllshire" for a work of similar date. The subject painting could well have been painted in that vicinity.

AN UNUSUAL PAIR OF JAPANESE KUTANI PORCELAIN BOWLS & A WATERCOLOUR OF THE BOWLS ATTRIBUTED TO THE BURMESE ARTIST BA NYAN (1897-1945), the watercolour with an inscription to the reverse reading 'Painting of these cups made for me in Rangoon by the Burmese artist U Ba Nyan in 1930', the bowls together with fitted hardwood stands and an original 1930's photo, the bowls of octagonal form decorated in red, silver and gold, each with a Chinese Shou symbol to its centre, the bowls 4.3in(11.2cm) wide & 2in(5.1)cm high.
Ernest Dade (1868-1935), Coastal view looking towards Scarborough, signed and dated '96, watercolour, 38.5 x 59cm.; 15.25 x 23.25in. * Member of the Staithes Group of artists, Ernest Dade was a Scarborough based marine artist. Painted predominantly coastal scenes of Scarborough and Yorkshire coast area. Exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of British Artists, Suffolk Street.Condition Report: The painting is in good, original condition with strong colours. There is foxing across the surface of the painting as can be seen in the images. The painting is framed and glazed as can be seen.

A finely painted Indian watercolour and gouache miniature painting, early 20th century, depicting two gentlemen, one kneeling with a falcon perched in his hand, the other standing and waving a white cloth, 10¾ x 7½in. (27.25 x 19cm.). * Condition: Good condition overall - colours bright, no splits of tears, not folded. Not examined out of frame. Light time staining to edges of card border. Very light scuffing to surface of outer card border at lower right corner. Dark blue pigment to the border and scroll at top has some tiny rubs and minor losses in places, plus one slightly larger scratch mark to the top border.

Collection - H.Tolson, exhibited - Bristol 1947, No. 67.", and bears stencil mark "161PD", and chalk date "22 Feb '66", image size 32 cm x 47 cm CONDITION REPORTS Has a large tear running down the centre of the painting which has been restored. Discolouration and areas of dirt throughout. There is a large rip running all the way down the painting which has been restored and further rips around the edges, which have also all been restored. There are also several rips to the bottom of the image which have been repaired. Appears to be a scratch/dent to the painting in the bottom right hand corner and some rubbing along the top edge. General wear and tear conducive with age and use. The mount is fading and discoloured in areas. the frame has light wear and the over all piece has wear and tear conducive with age and use - see images for further details

* JAMES MORRISON RSA RSW (SCOTTISH b 1932 - ), FLOWERS oil on board, signed and dated 1958 42.5cm x 74cm Framed. Note: James Morrison was born in Glasgow in 1932 and studied at Glasgow School of Art from 1950-4. He was visiting artist at Hospitalfield House in Arbroath1963-4 and lived in Catterline before moving to Montrose in 1965. James Morrison joined the staff of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art Dundee the same year and was senior lecturer there from 1979-87 when he left the college to paint full time. His first solo exhibition with The Scottish Gallery (Edinburgh) was in 1959. He has painted widely abroad since his travelling scholarship took him to Greece. Further painting trips have been to France, Canada, the High Arctic and Botswana, but for a long time his two major sources of inspiration have been the landscapes around his home in Montrose and Assynt in West Sutherland. Morrison is an Academician of the Royal Scottish Academy and a member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour. James Morrison's work is to be found in numerous institutional, corporate and private collections throughout the world, including the Royal Collection.
